K since this is an exhaust thread I am missing something.

With the RB headers, lets say streetable collect header for an 85 12A.

It replaces the manifold, pre-cat thing (mini cat like thing) and thats it? So if I still have Cats, i need to replace them or gut them and so i will have a Header, peice of pipe and then Factory connecting pipe?

Is that correct?

I plan on running straight pipe (side exit) off the stock mani for now, then after I build my header I'll just make it fit

Actually, at the moment I'm just running an open manifold...

For something that is decent and won't drive you nuts, at least $400 if you plan to use proper headers and decent mufflers. Best bet is to search this forum or Ebay for a used full RB system or at least start with some RB headers start collecting pieces.

Whatever you do, don't use Flowmasters or muffler shop huge tip mufflers. Yu will change them quickly and waste money.

Way back when ('90), I ran a RB R/R header, dual pipes to 24" glasspacks in each pipe and 2 Dynomax mufflers stacked side by side at the end. To tell you the truth, it wasn't as loud as cars I've heard today. It ran me around $125 but got louder by the time I got home as the glasspacks start burning out almost immediately. The next system just eliminated the glasspacks, straight to a RB Streetport muffler. Never got hassled and only one muffler! This was on a stock block SE running a 48 Dell'orto. That would be the cheapest without going PaceSetter.

I ran open Road Race header for about 3 weeks daily driven, holy **** you talk about painful. How I never got pulled over I will never know LOL. DJ, the header will replace the precats but it won't quite bolt up to the factory cat, it falls a few inches short. A Straight pipe or the RB presilencer will bolt to the header and the factory connecting pipe. My set up is RB Road Race header that is collected and straight piped to an RB Power Pulse muffler. Sounds fantastic coupled with my Power Pulse air box for the Nikki. The only thing I would change is I would use thicker walled piping as it does sound kind of leaky in the low RPM albeit quiet.
