Chaning color of the Dash

Chaning color of the Dash
I need a new dash and have found one that is the wrong color. I've seen some threads about painting the dash. If you have done this, or had it done, have you been happy with the results? Does it last? Is this something a non-professional could do? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've done it with great results. I used "Dupli-Color vinyl and fabric" paint. Its more like a dye than a paint. Make sure to get the matte finish as this looks most natural. Clean the dash very well with thinner until it becomes pale. This will give the paint a good surface to stick and soak into. Give it a couple of coats. Shine it up and it will look like new.

Painting the dash black would be easy. Go to Ace and buy ACE brand flat black primer spray paint. That stuff sticks like glue and is durable...it also dries (if done propperly) almost instantaneously. Clean your dash with thinner thoroughly before painting, let it dry for an hour or two, then apply several thin coats. You aught to be able to get 10 even coats out of a can of spraypaint. If you want it glossy then you can take some amorall to it...or you can get some ACE gloss black (make sure it's the same variety, only glossy) and repeat the above proceedure...only with out the thinner prepping.
Brown would be a bit more dificult. Your best bet would be to prime the dash in black as I wrote above as a starter. Then you'll need to find a brown paint that matches your interior pretty well and paint it with that in several even light coats.
Keep in mind that if you go over the primer with a glossy or different type of paint you'll need to leave the dash unused for about a week. If the paint doesn't fully set before you start tampering with it then you stand a good chance of ruining the paint.
