![Question](https://www.rx7club.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I just recently bought a 1982 rx7, my first project car,(the car has been sitting out side for two + years before I got it).
I assumed that the engine in it was a 12a since it had a carb on it, but to my surprise it was a 13b. (The engine must have been change in it's past)
I was hoping some one could inform me on what I could expect from a carbed 13b vice a fuel injected 13b.
As well the air pump was removed, is this going to cause problems with the engine or is it just emission control?

The air pump is just emission control; it provides fresh air for the catalytic converter. If you have a cat you need the pump, if not toss it.
The expectations of a carbed 13b will depend on the carb, and the motor. There are 6 port 13b’s and older 4 port 13b’s. The 6 port will have an aftermarket carb as these came originally with FI, the 4 port came carbed with Hitachi, I believe, carbs.
Good luck.

Either way, you cant go wrong. If you have a 6 port with an aftermarket carb, you're a lucky man. If you have an old 4 port 13B... you ARE THE MAN!!!

Please excuse my ignorance on this subject but can you elaborate on the older 4 ported 13b carb'ed engines.
Your comment leads me to believe this is a good thing.
Please if you know of some good links and or books that may help in my project (1982 rx7) it would be most appreciated.
