Carbureator???

I am having some issues with my 1985 GSL. Recenctly the car would idle terribly rough at idle, speetialy with the choke out. The car also has lost a bit of power. I solved the rough running by removing the hot air hose ( BTW what does it do... prevent Carb iceing?). The Car still has a lot less power then it should ( the car was not in tune before this happend). The Car is recently idling low as well. 300-500rpm. What is going on here??? Does the carb need to be tuned, or is something elce criticle?

Thanks Ted.

have you tried adjusting the idle screw? or fuel-air screw?

i fiddled with it before, and had the idle at 1000rpm, but recently it just droped. I will try tuning it again, but i am not very good at it ( first carbureator tuning i have ever done). Just to get things straight, the fuel air screw is the one on the left of teh carb, near teh base, in the middle, and the idle is the one off to the right??? The Haynes manual is exicrable.

Yes your right about which screw is which. However they dont just go out of tune. Something else is causing your problem. Leave the carb alone. Check the fuel levels in the float bowls, make sure its not flooding. (look down in the carb when idling and make sure you dont see fuel pouring out of the nozzles).

It depends on the rpm's. If they are high then youll see fuel squirting. If theres fuel comming out of the secondaries at idle that indicates flooding. How do you know the secs arent working? They wont open in your driveway. Not enough load to get enough air thru the primaries to make them open.

when i drive the car, you can feel the secondaries kick in, but they don't kick in as well as they did before. Even before teh car was not performing corectly. The secondaries open, they just don't work right. I got the car going 180kmh, now i can't get it going past 163kmh, and when i made it go 180, the secondaries were not working right.

Acceleration is also mediocure.

So I spend a good 30 min under the hood this morning. I found no fuel squirting at idle. I did some screw twisting and what not, and the car runs a heck of alot better. The car still has some bog in it, but much better. What should the 0-100kmh ( 0-60mph) time be for a stock 1985 GSL be, if it never had a rebuild.
