Why the hell would you want a carbon fiber hood for a 1st gen rx7?

10lbs, that is hard to believe. The first gen hood is light as ****. Its like a piece of tin, it is one of the lighter hoods I have ever lifted.

For the price of Carbon Fiber you would be better off throwing your fingers down your throat and loosing 10lbs that way.

1st7Heaven has a fiberglass one done, its only like a lb. or two more than the carbon fiber one, and it would help him be motivated to make more light weight body parts for the 7.

Yes, 1st gen hoods are light... hence the 10 lb weight difference vs. far more for, say a Dodge hood.

What it comes down to is some people want what others mock. I was in an SUV once where the girl driving it proudly showed me the carbon fibre stereo surround. JFC, a 4,500 lb vehicle, and a CF dash piece instead of the 50 grams of plastic that was there before? But she thought it looked good (and I thought she looked good) so instead of sneering "You twit, you could have saved more weight by leaving the tampon out" I just nodded diplomatically then went back to ogling her legs.

Anyone whos cornerweighted a 1st gen knows that they are very left front heavy. Going with the cf hood drops front weight, which is good, and drops it from the second best possible place, up high. Some of us are serious about our cars, and all the small things add up to big gains. Dont be such ******** to someone who is just asking about where to get something. He didnt ask for your opinions, just a parts source. ****** retards should keep your uneducated and unwanted "insights" to yourselves.

Anyway.... Yea 1st7heaven has done one cf hood by hand, but he now has the vac bag equiptment, so hopefully soon he'll be going into production.

So if you put all the wieght on one cornor and wiegh it and do the same to all the other cornors it is heavy huh??? Thats intresting... the 1st gen hood doesnt weigh that much man... and mabey one day I will get "serious" about my car and I will get a full neon kit some big 17in chrome wheels a huge wing some lightup pedals and a carbon fiber shift **** but as of right now I will stick to REAL preformance... its one thing if there is a guy with a race car and is trying to balist his wieght.... its a TOTALLY different thing when some kid has a fart pipe on a 1st gen and wants to rice it out... a little show is good if you got something to back it up with... I got into the older import cars for PREFORMANCE... best cars out there... and it makes EVERYONE look bad when some kid saves up his allowence and puts a carbon fiber hood on his 1st gen and revs at every one...

Here is 1st7heaven's site. He sells them through here, or at least the fiberglass ones. You can email him and see whats up with the CF ones though. Last one I saw looked DAMN good .

PS - The fiberglass hood saves 20lbs .

I just want to spend the most money on my 1st gen as possible. And since i am lightening it, doesnt hurt to save another 20lbs AND have it look good...however it wont be the only carbon fiber bodypanel on the car...but it will be the only unpainted (but clearcoated) panel.

1. Why do you assume those wanting CF hoods are all 'kids'?

2. Why do you assume that someone willing to spend several hundred dollars for a single part would have NO performance mods?

I spent $2,000 on rims & tires for my car - yet I've not been called a ricer yet. Maybe it's because I also have a full RB exhaust system freeing up horsepower, modded suspension making her corner like she's on rails - or maybe its that many people like how the car looks, and often mistake it for a brand new vehicle (typically Porsche)

You make some pretty prejudgemental statements in a thread where someone was asking where they can locate a weight saving part. Sure it's only 10-15 lbs depending on whether you have the steel or aluminum hood, but to some people that amount of weight matters. For all you know the guy is a pro drag racer and 15 lbs could be the difference between a lucrative sponsorship contract and an also-ran credit.

im totally with mantis...

being that im 16, and ive been into rotaries since i was 12.. i have some stuff to say about that ****...

yea, im 16, yea, i have a loud *** exhaust on my rex, but rotaries are loud. when i put my exhaust on, i was working at subway @ 5.15 an hour. when i got my exhaust, i was a little dissappoint in the loud sound, but i have grown to like it. i do have a "ricey" muffler on it (dual 3" dtm ractive muffler) but i got it $100 of retail, so i jumped on it. so i didnt do it to "be loud" or "say i have exhaust" i did it because i want to make my (18.1 second at the time) car quicker. if a CF hood makes it a little quicker, so be it. i want it for three things, weight, looks, and to support a fellow rx7 guy. i cut 2.5" off the top of my shifter becasue i wanted it shorter without paying $180 for a real one, does that make me a ricer? im actually proud of that because i can say "i did it myself"

and reving at everyone? yea, if you are stuck in traffic, and you reving it to 4k, yea thast stupid, but at a light, how else do you get the point you wan tto race? honk the horn? how quiet it YOUR car? what mods do you have? i think TJ is the only one who actually answer the poor guy's question. if you dont like CF, fine.. keep it to yourself. that post seemed kinda fucked up to me, its like you attack all of the younger people for modding their car, and when it doesnt come out as planned (IE: my exhaust) or its not to YOUR liking.. your quick to judge... everyone learns somewhere.

Your the kind of person I am talking about... you have a $500 car with 2k in wheels and a fart pipe on your car... and now you want to spend $500 on a carbon fiber hood that you will notice NO DIFFERENCE IN PREFORMANCE WITH... you would notice the same improvement if you took the jack out of the back of your car... and then you take your 16 sec rx7 and fart at people and get beat... once again MAKEING IT WORSE FOR EVERYONE WHO ACTUALLY GIVES 2 ***** ABOUT PREFORMANCE...

Okay post it again... just what I am talking about... I am 18 man... age has nothing to do with it... rice is rice... opening up your exaughst is one thing... you cut 2.5 in off your shifter... DOES NOTHING in terms of preformance for you... if your running 17 sec passes the 5 lbs you save IS NOT GOING TO DO ****.... NOTHING.... hell I dont care if you take 30 lbs off that car... your not going to notice any lower 1/4's... with a 105 hp car... if the ricers put 1/2 as much time and money into junk yard turbos ect as they did in usless mods there radio systems and makeing there car look gay there cars would actually move...

**** off man... ****.. what do you drive????

seeing how you have 128posts and mantis is about to roll over 3k, you have no room coming here and **** talking forums members that have been here WAY longer than you...

2k rims on a $500 car?? have you seen his car? that car is in almost perfect condition.. i believe he drove MANY miles for that car, and its in storage for the winter...

im VERY interested in what YOU drive...

i think its fucked up you attack mantis like that when he is respected amoung the other rx7 guys, and provides alot of **** for us at good prices.

and the "i **** on hondas" name.. obviously you have havent been exposed to a c5.. i know of a few people personally running low 13's all motor on a 4 banger.. your a ****.. im sure i speak for alot of people when i say no respect for you man..
