Carb Questions

Well not just carb questions....but a bunch and one bout the carb. Ive got a 84 with 12a and nikki carb. I notice when I try to adjust the air/fuel mixture the screw doesnt seem to do anything. Also when I start it up the first time in the morning....Its a pain in the *** to start....and I usually end up spraying starter fluid into the air filter. How much power are these cars supposed to have? I know in 1st gear she doesnt seem to want to spin the tires. I know I need to adjust the throttle cable....but could that have something to do with it? She doesnt smoke and the guy I got it from had put a junkyard engine into it so I dont know how many miles are on it. Im also thinking bout pulling the AC as it just blows warm air.
Also seems like the idiot that owned it before me put some good ******* thread locker on the temp sensor.....possibly job weld and I cant get it out....so im trying to put a aftermarket kit on it.

i had the exact same problem, and am still working out the details. what fixed this for me was the distributor was off one tooth and therefore the timing was way out of wack,so check the distributor, and then time it,just might cure your prob.

oh and as for power,a 12 in a 1st gen is right around 100 hp i believe they rate it at 101 hp. in optimum running condition! if running right you should be able to smoke em hard in 1st and chirp em into 2nd. with no mods.

might i suggest that when u get in to start it, try pressing the gas pedal a couple times to alow the accelerator pump to squirt gas down into the engine, then turn it over. a lot of ppl r spoiled by fuel injection where there's no need to touch the gas for the engine to start cause the injectors r spraying fuel while the engine is turning over.

Ive had several Carbed vehicles....just this one doesnt seem to want to start up. Maybe I just need to let it crank over a lil more.

Make sure that you have spark on your leading ignition, then check the timing...
