carb problems

Removing the tank is easier than it sounds. I have minimal mechanical aptitude, and it took 30 minutes. There are good threads on cleaning it. Search 'marine clean'. I didn't use that but I would next time. Get a new sock for the pickup, and replace the fuel lines while you're at it.
You'll be glad you did. Now get that thing up on stands!

I actually removed my tank last week, it's really not tough at all. It's only a couple bolts and screws. My fuel lines were all mucked up and that took a bit. My tank was pretty bad. I read you can use vinegar and it really did work quite well for what it's worth. It took a few days but most of the corrosion is gone, I was really suprised.

Yea I dropped the tank in my old 83 gs and just 3 10's for the shield and then the 4 bolts to the straps and I cleaned that tank so I guess this one will need a cleaning too

In the fuel bolts on top of the carb are little screens that filter the fuel one last time. On all my carbs i have torn apart they have disintegrated or were packed with debris. I would check into that if you havent messed with them yet.

Ok so I finally figured out the problem. I took the clampboff the fuel filter. And the line to the tank was clogged so its uncloged and everything is working how it should fuel bowls are good but when I go from first gear the acceleration is crap until I shift into 2nd at 4k rpms then 2nd gear and up its smooth acceleration in any rpm? Like when I go from a stop it keeps sputtering until I shift? Not a terrible sputter just takes about 5 seconds to reach 3k rpm full throttle in first

What I'm getting from this thread is that you ended up wasting a ton of time rebuilding a carb that was probably fine. When all along there was sediment showing in the filter which should have automatically had you checking the fuel lines first thing. Good to know what route not to go.
I hate ethanol which is the root of all these issues we have with our tanks.
Not trying to flame glad you got it running and the thread has been informative, thanks

First of all before the rebuild the.guy guy told me it needed rebuilt and just by looking at it you could tell before the rebuild it wouldn't even hold an idle and now when I have everything sorted out all I ask was about that spit stutter sputter problem? Would you know what it is?
