You know my RX7 had that little miss on idle for 3 years, thought it was the carb (as it is a four letter word) The the igniter box on the altenator died, new altenator no more miss.

mine does the same thing but it also bags out around 4500 rpm in 3rd,4th and 5th gear... im going to take it into a rotary shop inmy city, i believe it is the carb or a vacuum problem

My mechanic told me it would not be ignition but it was.

I had the hesitation and looked at my dizzy rotor, and found that it was cracked. Because of this, I replaced cap, rotor, plugs. Plugs werent that good when not firing correctly. I would start there. It doesnt cost too much and even if it doesnt fix it you know that it ISNT the problem. Maybe even be a faulty coil. Not sure how to test them though. I do know that they are roughly 30-35 a piece for stock replacements from autozone.

I agree with slashdawg00110. If you aren't getting fuel to both barrels, you probably have a carb problem. You would be pleased with a rebuild. Will probably help the gas mileage along with better performence. Go ahead and change out the filter while you are at it.

Ignitor box, earlier models are easier as the ignitor box is mounted on the side wall of the engine bay near the battery.
This problem persisted through 3 motors and two carbs. The car now has a freshly built motor and revs cleanly throughout the entire rev range
Hope you find your problem, Sue

The ignitor box on your car is a small black matchbox shaped thingo on the side of the altenator.
Not sure how to test it, we stumbled on it when we inadvertently swapped the coil lead back to front, (the car reved perfectly like this but would not idle, so it was clear that the leading spark was at fault) we tested the spark and found that once the motor was revving around 2500 the spark was not strong enough to bridge the gap.
