car wo'nt start???
I have an 84 se and in won't start. I replaced my starter last night and then started the car, just to see if the starter would turn over, it ran so I decided to turn it off. I tried to start my car this morning and it would not start. I think it decided to flood because I smelled gas. I pulled the plugs and they were coated in gas, so it deffinately flooded. I tested a plug to see if it would spark and it did. I will test all the plugs later.
Tonight I pulled the hose that feeds the fuel rail and turned it over. ( This has worked for me in the past). Usually after pulling the fuel hose the motor would turn over a few times and then start and die(because of lack of fuel), but it didn't.
The motor still did not start
I will try and start it tomorrow and see if it will work.
I am confused
1) It gets spark
2) It gets air
3) I think it might be getting too much fuel

I replaced the leading igniter that I had with a spare and that did not fix the problem. I have no idea what it could be. Is there any way a fuel injector could get stuck open overnight and not allow the motor to start.
I think the motor is severally flooded, and I don't know why it's fuel injected.

It is possible that you have a stuck open injector, but more than likely I don't think so. You say you started it the night before and then shut it off. The GSL-SE has sort of a glitch in the computer that if you start it and don't let it warm up fully before shutting it off, it will almost always flood the next time that you try to start it.
I would unplug the connector with the black wire on the negative side of the trailing coil. This wire goes to the ecu to tell the injectors to fire. I would then pull out all of the spark plugs and crank it over for about 20 seconds to get the fuel cleared out. You may want to also squirt a small amount of oil or MMO in the combustion chamber. Put plugs back in. Reconnect the trailing coil and try again.
You may want to think about installing a fuel cut switch. That way if it floods, flip the switch and crank until it fires. Flip the switch back on and you are off and running. It also can serve as an anti-theft device. I know that the fuel pump switch on my car has helped me numerous times.

I took the plugs out and the wire off of the coil, then turned it over for more than twenty seconds. I hooked everything back up and tried it again, and it did not start it sounded the same as before. The car will just turn over with no sound of combustion. I know that I am getting spark, because I have tried all the plugs. Last week I checked my coils and plug wires and they were all good.
Is there anything else that could be wrong? It makes no sense, the car ran the day before all this happened.

I will try anything that I havn't tried, but so far I have.
1) Tested fuel pump (good)
2) Tested igniter (good)
3) Tested coils (good)
Tested plug wires (good)
4) Looked at cap and rotor (good)
5) Took spark plugs out (good)
6) Tried to unfood with procedure mentioned earlier
(unfooded, i think, but did not start.)
7) Checked battery (good, O'Rieley's)
8) Charged battery (worked)
9) See if something crawled in intake and died
(nothing in there)
10) make sure wires are all correct

Okay, well the next things that I would check if you haven't already:
1. Check fuel pressure. It should be around 37 or so psi with the car not running. Sometime the fuel pressure regulator can fail causing high fuel pressure which will flood the engine easily. However, these don't seem to fail too often though.
2. I would pull off the fuel rail with the injectors. Strap the injectors to the fuel rail as shown in the FSM with a piece of wire to keep them from coming off. Put a jumper wire across the fuel pump shunt connector (connector with a boot by the AFM) and turn key to the on position. The fuel pump should be running. Check to see if one of the injectors is leaking.
3. Next crank the engine with the injectors out. Both injectors should squirt out fuel as the engine is cranked over. You should pull off the high tension leads from the coils first.
The other things to check for a hard start/ no start condition are listed in the FSM under section 4b. These include the water thermo sensor and the voltages on the ecu. If you don't have an FSM, you can download it at:
http://www.wankel.net/~krwright/cars/rx7/85_manual.html
Hope this helps.

I don't know if this will help, but before the car decided not to start I was having problems with sputtering at high rpm's. Around 5-7k the car would sputter like the spark was being cut for some reason. It would not do this all the time, just some of the time. I looked at the vacuum lines and all seem to be fine.
I am in the process of looking at that manual
thanks for all of your help. I will get my car fixed
