sounds like possibly the fuel filter concerning the cut out at high revs..maybe a tune up is in order?
and look for a possible fuel leak with that high of consumption
cheers

these cars get lousy mileage ..(ok average)..you would be lucky to hit 20 miles per gallon in town and 30 on the highway..and i'm talkin put a rabbit in your pants lucky!..i think stock is 19 in town and highway is mid 20's ..so if you think you are gettin bad mileage in the car..maybe you are used to drivin a more "economical '" car...not sayin the make..you know ..

How many miles do you travel to use that much gas?

No you are right. That is too much gas. Im only getting about 15 MPG and my carb is well tuned. (It is a Weber, so it isnt REALLY street friendly) Anyway, I would check the timing just for kicks, But my gut says your carb is in need of a rebuild. Check the FLOATS. That will really screw you up. (Fuel should be halfway up the windows)

Blwfly Pull off the top of the carb,(8 or 9 screws I think) and adjust the floats.
