car is dead. got it running, PLEASE HELP
ok, well my rx7 has been down for about 2 weeks now.
i ran it at an autox 2 weeks ago, and i noticed it was VERY low on power, but i ran my last 2 heats, drove 30 minutes home, then a round trip of one hour to work. i had the floats sticking on my carb a while back, and it felt the same. wouldnt idle below 2-3k. it looked like the rear was getting more fuel than the front, so we rebuilt my old carb and stuck it on there. it was flooding out real bad, i think we finally fixed that now.
things its doing.
the pick ups in the dist. are bad, i know that. the car is only firing on the trailing plugs.
we can finally get it to run on the trailing plugs, but it doesnt seem to be firing on the rear rotor. i used a regular pressure gauge, the the front rotor bounces about 75 psi, and the rear gets a little bit under 60. i know thats low, but it should still be enough to run, correct?
when we (we being me and my dad) get it running, it runs like ****, wont idle under 2.5k, and the front header pipe GLOWS bright *** orange.
what gets me, is that the rear plugs (even though the leading isnt firing) isnt wet, but there is fuel going down the carb.
we swapped plugs SO many times its insane. i know the car wont run right with just the trailing plugs firing, but the front header pipe shouldnt be glowing, when you can TOUCH the rear header pipe (i dont know what the hell possesed my dad to try and TOUCH it.. but he did)
ANY help? both float levels seem to be staying the right height now. im getting really tired of this car...
im trying not to say the motor is trashed, but i think its starting to look that way...

I'm guessing there is no excessive smoke from the exhaust? If so maybe you can try this. I dont know if this will help & I dont even know why it has worked but I have seen it done twice now to cars running on one rotor. Maybe someone can enlighten me. Both cars had reasonable to good comp.
Block the top of the carb and give it a good hard rev. Dont rev the dinger out of it though.
If your plugs arent wet you have gotta think that somehow the fuel isnt reaching the combustion chamber?

well, i was thinking that if fuel is going down the intake, but not making the plugs wet, its not getting there somehow, but what could be stopping it?
i dont see why the header is glowing at idle? just on one side though? i mean... BRIGHT *** ORANGE... not just, glowing a little red...

running only on trailing, which is similar to very retarded timing, will make the exhaust extra hot. If you know the leading isn't firing, why don't you start by fixing that?
Or at least advance the timing as much as you can

Do you have a timing light, need to check if the leading ignitor is dead, this is way more common than the pick up coil in the dist or is that what you are refering to? If the ignitor is
dead on the leading side there will be no signal to the timing light. If thats the case, just switch the ignitors for right now until you can get a replacement which i have some and dist's also.
60 psi in the rear and 75 psi on the front is a very worn out motor. After checking the ignitor
problem, Remove the plugs and put some mmo in the cylinders, turn it over alittle and let
it soak over night. rx7doctor

You have already stated the reason for your dilema. The car will run like crap with only trailing ignition, and it will cause extra heat in your engine and your exhaust. DON'T drive it that way!
You might try swapping the ignitors and coils around and see if you can get your lead ignition working. You WILL be able to drive it with just Leading ignition, but not with trailing only.
Good luck with it!
