capping off rear brakes????
i want drive my car around but my rear calipers seem to be seizing up since i went threw a whole rear set of pads and rotors in less then 200miles....
i just put new pads and rotors on but dont want to burn threw this set untill i can get my calipers in working order....
my front brakes have new remain calipers rockauto.com and if i can get the car to drive then i can get the new front rotors on also...
so question is..can i block off the rear brakes?? like cap the line off or somthing??

ive heard of doing that like bending the line u mean? really your back brakes dont do much exept e-brake and like 20% of all braking soo i dont know why you cant u will just stop slower!!!

well i dont want crimp the line... because i want to be able to use my rear brakes again maybe after christmas if i can uh.....put money towards brakes AGAIN rather then rims
calipers that came on my GSL rear end from the junk yard were crap when i got them so i bought some "working order" ones from a forum member but i gusse they werent "working order" so..........i gotta go buy another set of rear calipers or...rebuild them which i heard is hard because of the ebrake and stuff...........

i dont wanna say how i know this but vice grips and a wide peice of plastic on both sides crimps the rubber line very very nicely!
it works but i wouldnt do it for very long. it will damage the line maybe cut it or weaken it so bad it will leak. just what i know.
not the hard line there schould be a soft line before each caliper. small vice grips work MO nice!

i have SS lines on now so i could put the rubber lines back on..............
is there anyway i could put a cap on male end of the threads??? almost like a cap that is on the end of tire valve stems..this way i could just screw it on the end of the line that screws into the caliper and it would hold tight

first off, I should mention how dangerous this can be... If you are in a emergency situation and need to stop fast, well lets just say it might not be so good.
Cap the line going from the master cylinder that goes to the rear brakes. It should be as simple as that. But like I said, I can't really say that this is a good idea... Also if you do just block it off like that, the pressure on that piston of the master cylinder will not be able to move. Creating a stiff brake pedal, honestly I wouldn't even consider messing around with something like brakes. Just do it properly...

1 line goes from the master to the rear axel, then it splits into 2, take the single line out of the tee at the rear axel and put a cap on it.
goto a autosupply store and get an inverted flare cap nut, but make sure you get the right thread pitch
This is a short term solution, you should really get the brakes fixed ASAP

don't even bother with capping the line. just bite the bullet and buy 2 new calipers off rockauto. rebuilding a complicated caliper such as the rears aren't even worth it.

Don't play with your brakes man. And if somebody tries to tell you that the rear brakes don't do much then slap them. I'll admit that the front brakes may be enough on dry pavement, but as soon as you get into the wet or snow you'll just slide straight through intersections and stuff. The point is, four tires braking gets a lot better traction than two tires braking. If you don't have traction, you don't have braking. Do it the right way so we don't have to read about you in the newspaper....

well......for both rear calipers they are $245+shipping does anyone know of a cheaper place to buy them at.???
would a shop rebuild calipers for you?? the rebuild kit is $16 for each caliper and then if i were to take them to a shop to get rebuilt...
does anyone have a shop willing to do this locally for them??
