can someone help me (replacing guages)

hey guys..

i recently bought a set of white guages from rotaryrx7.com.. and i was wondering if anyone could give me sum direction on how to remove the plate which is right on top of the guages of the rx7..

i managed to take out the housing...(the one u remove first obviously)

then the glass..

after that im stuck!

the plate wont come off!!!

the write up on rotaryrx7 wasnt helpful at all..
cant i do it without taking the whole guage cluster?

all i wanna do is paint the plate silver.. then replace the gauges to my new white ones..

i dun wanna take out the whole thing..

anyone got a diagram? i cant find the screws which hold the plate itself..

i hope u guys know wat im talkin about.. not the first thing u take off.. nor the glass..

its like the thing that has the curcle shape of the guages which is right on top of it (which covers the inside parts and wires)..

i removed the housing.. and the glass..

wats next to get into the guages?.. i need to know where the screws are.. so i can take it off..

thanx guys

You have to take the whole gauge cluster out to be able to access the screws on the back side, IIRC.

I found it fairly easy to take the whole cluster out when I switched mine...
There's something like 3 harnesses (plus the speedo cable) you reach up from underneath to disconnect, and two screws underneath,
Then you're supposed to take off the wheel, but I just dropped the column a bit and the cluster slid out just fine.
I found that it also helped to drop the piece of air conduit that's underneath there... It's only one screw and is easy to put back on.

i dont even need to move the wheel to get my cluster out, allthough it's an 80 so that may be why.

meh. my .02

Ok, to find the speedo cable, it is the only thing that feels like an actual CABLE going into the back of the cluster.

You just have to pull hard. Don't worry, you WILL crunch your fingers pulling it out, i've tried very hard not to, and i do every time. No use trying to avoid it.

Just follow it from the firewall back to the guage cluster if you need. there is a bracket i think behind the cluster, which sort of hold sthe cable in place. I'm sure you'll find it.

Hope this helps, if you need any more help PM me. I went through a shitload of pain and suffering trying to get my guages installed, and ended up breaking teh front glass getting it out (no biggie, now i can see the guages more clearly hehehe ;-))

Peace
