Mine has a hard time started too. Its simply because of the cold, though. Unless it won't start at all, or barely runs at all, I'd say it isn't much to worry about. Carburated engines tend to have a harder time in winter.

Mess with the choke settings a little bit. That is more than likely your problem. The carb is going to need adjusted usually on a seasonal basis.

let me help here, I've asked maddie for more details in another post she started. She did a tune up of her 7 which include plugs, oil change, carb rebuilt... I believe she flooded it because of the carb rebuilt, however, if she says it runs, then i'm not sure that is the problem. though the carb is probably the suspect.

hay all, im girlygirl's boyfriend

im the one that is doing most of the repairs on her car. my guess since ive done all i can think of i have a FC so FB is something new to learn but that basics is there.i did a full tune up on the car and adjusted the carb to where the rebuild kits says to set the floats. 2 inch for the drop and 5/8 for the raise the only things i can think of that i havent tried is that the cars fuel is too old .i found this out when i replaced the fuel filter since that too was bad and im thinking the fuel tank is rusted out so i might have to drop the tank and clean out all that rust when she bought this car it was a garage baby and when i first saw it ,it was all original .....so here is the list so far of what has been changed out to new.

coil packs leading and trailing
plug wires
spark plugs
fuel filter
battery
cap and rotar
carb rebuild kit
oil and filter

my guess now is that the car is flooded and i think i didnt connect the choke correct on the carb end .simple fix

I've got a thread on No-Starts, check in the FAQ... Could be a number of things though if it runs and dies...

I'd try looking into the new fuel filter though. Remove it and blow into the side the connects to the engine. What ever was floating around in the tank will come out. Catch it in a glass and see what it looks like.

How long was the car sitting? I've started RX-7's that have had 4 yr old gas in the tank, no problems. (One was mine.)

Might not be gas, although there is a drainage plug on the stock tank. Drain it out and see what the tank looks like.

Check spark... As the car warms up, it could be causing an intermittant problem... Could be ignitors or something... As a test, get that sprayable air for cleaning out computers, turn the can upside down (The label usually says NOT to do this. Definitely do not spray yourself. It will give you frostbite.) and spray the ignitors. (Small black guys on the side of the distributor.) This will cool them down.

Once they're good and chilly, try to start the car again.

you may have checked all those things you listed turbo2se but did you do a voltmeter test...if could also be a bad line...I know that when I had my car before I stripped it I had a fuel line that was old and the suction would collapse the line starving the engine...suggested upgrade..FI...try starting it with the choke off so that you don't get any extra gas in the carb if it is already flooded...the coils packs could be just about on their way out...I would also suggest a simple t2 coil pack upgrade...try these...but test all the leads with a voltmeter first then work your way through everything else again

I'm betting on choke cutting off too soon. When you try to restart are you pulling the choke out ALL THE WAY again? Try that & come back.

ok i found out something new with the car im not getting spark with the leading coil at all....the tach doesnt jump during start up like normal.ive tested everything in the electrical side as far as spark goes . what controlls the coil to tell it when to spark and where would it be located on the car? coil isnt bad just the thing that tells it when to spark. cause i tested the coil and its fine . someone told me it might be a igniter? if its a igniter, does autozone or advanced auto parts sells something like that or is it a dealer item?

If it's the igniter head to the local "up pull it" yard, would be your best bet. Also if you're not into going threw a 'yard ebay usually has 'em.

The ignitor tells it to fire. I actually have some for sale! Tested even! heheheh PM if you want, but I doubt that's your problem. You said you replaced the coils? Maybe you got the wiring wrong? Not to sound condescending, but it's worth checking.
The tach is connected to trailing, so both ignitors failing at the same time is..unlikely.
Are you getting voltage to the coils?
