can I fix death oil leak with a oil pump
As I drink bud and figure a way to slow the o ring leak. Eureka. what if I attach a used oil sending pump to suck up the oil as it emits from the bad o ring seal? I dont know if the pump is electrical or mechanical. Anyone think I can suck the oil of the block and pump it in to a a jar or something? SC

Not a good idea, but good imagination. The pump is mechanical. The sump oil sucks, even if you could capture it. You don't want it back in the engine.
Better to keep the good oil in the engine.
Here's how. You drink bud. Your FB drinks stop leak:

Agreed, pour a bottle of stop leak in there and hope for the best. I've always had a very strong aversion to stop leak mixed with any fluids, I think the stuff is evil incarnate, however in the case of a dowel pin oil leak it's better than a rebuild. Now go have a few more beers and sleep on it--it'll all be clear in the morning. Ben

I don't like the stop leak either.
I have contemplated using a diaper. Right now I have a pile kitty litter in my garage that I park over. I went to the bank the other day in the rain and when I came out there was an oil slick flowing from my car.
Ray, he didn't intend to put it back in the engine, just collect it, similar to a diaper. Maybe a small tray to collect it where it drips... or a diaper
Anyone remember the skit on SNL where Dan Akroyd is this dude in the 1700's or such, and has a condition where he has occasional fits and has to invade the personal space of whomever is next to him? To stop it he has to get hit in the head with a mallet. He also has a drool tray attached to his head that the guy taking care of him(guy from Monty Pythons flying circus) has to empty all the time unless it's spilled on someone in one of his fits.

I still say if a bottle of stop leak won't stop it, bite the bullet and rebuild. Don't look at it as a bad thing, but a freshening up, and an opportunity for some mild porting.
Gotta love all these late-friday-night posts...priceless.

i would do the job the right way and pull the engine and replace the front cover gasket and seal. you will also want to replace the exhaust manifold gasket and reseal the oil pan. sucking dirty used oil that has leaked from the engine and attempting to recycle it is not only one of the most ridiculous things i have ever heard, its also asking for contaminated oil and rotor bearing wear..

Thanks Folks. Things are clearer in the morning. I've added stop leak, which I think should be re-named "Reduce Leak". I've rolled up a blue paper shop towel and have it squooshed between the distributor and the block. this works real well if you change the diaper towel every week.
Sadly, I ran out towels yesterday. I'm testing an old sock this weekend to see if it has the same suckability as the Blue paper towel. I would like to test Huggies and a dog PP pad next.
I've not given up on the on the soon to be patented "Smellycat FB oil leak sucker" using a carb vacuum line and a jar. One hose applying vacuum to the jar and a 2nd hose from the jar drawing the oil off the block.

Some photos of the Blue paper towel, the old sock and the Huggies installed, along with instructions for attachment and a tutorial on the "Smellycat FB oil leak sucker" would be useful for the archives!
We can laugh because we've all been there too.
I can't claim credit for this one but on one of my FB's a PO used metal epoxy applied to the outside of the engine over the dowel pin leak to "fix" it. A crazy idea you would think, not for us purists for sure.
But you know, it probably worked about as well as the "Slow Leak" to make a really bad leak a little slower.

If its not your daily driver I will agree with the earlier post about a rebuild. Chances are your O-Rings are starting to go bad as well and stop-leak is only ever a stopgap fix (I know ive tried on my old foxbody mustang). If you watch a couple rebuild videos and you know whats going on its not all that intimidating and kind of exciting. The sense of accomplishment after an engine rebuild is the best part you will smile bigtime everytime you fire it up.

Yep.. a rebuild would be Neato, Is the rx7 my daily driver?. right now ..YES The crux of the matter... I got 3 punks in College and when one of the whips dies I got to sacrifice another of my babies. Last month the 96 Honda Ran out of trans oil with my oldest. Cops towed it, It would cost 90 bucks to free it. Since both air bags were blown in a previous mishap and about alot of other abuse .. The tow yard can have it. We got the battery and the floor mats . Because of this ... My beloved 91 SAAB is is attending College with my boy. So yep, the Rx is the daily driver until i get the POS Lumina oil pump fixed and rescue the Saab from certain death. . SC

Gotta love those FB's for DD's, they are bullet proof. If they've got problems, just put diapers on.
You can always put off the rebuild till next year.
Saab's, I dunno. Don't they make aircraft engines?
