Can i do it

So, i blew my motor about 8 months ago on my gslse. Im about to purchase a rebuilt s4 street ported motor with about 6,0000 miles on it. This will be my first ever engine swap. Ive studied and searched and saved bookmarks regarding anything i think i will be going threw. I have a Haynes manual and the fsm, many tools and a garage. Budget is limited. Ive considered paying a pro to do it but i really want to tackle this on my own. The most ive ever done was replace the clutch. I tell my self "with time and patience i can do it", but then again i say "wow its a big job". I think i am looking for some advice or motivation to make this project go. What do you guys say? I mean how hard is it to change a motor????

not quite 100% sure on all of this but using the front cover off the gslse engine, it should be an easy swap. not too sure bout the intake tho. gl and keep us updated on the progress. also the s4 uses a slightly larger flywheel so u might want to consider a light weight flywheel or u'll have to use the gslse one and swap in the front counter weight.

It depends on what you want to retain, if you are going to keep the FI system then its some wiring work to make sure it works right, if you're going carb you'll need the appropriate stuff for that as well.

You should only need the GSL-SE Front cover and Oil Pan to swap the motor in via the original mounts. Its a big project, but its easy to break it down into chunks so its more manageable.

Atkins or mazdatrix or DIYS13B How Too Rebuild video DVDs are worth their weight in gold. Will show you stuff no book alone can properly show you. This are easy to rebuild compared to a lot of engine types, but like any project there are a lot of "gotchas" and tricks that can make or break a rebuild.
Been there... in fact, "there" right now!

if you use the front cover and oil pan from your SE engine and use the SE's EGI setup then the engine will be a perfect fit with no modifications needed to the S4 short block.
