Well, I went ahead and cut the center section out today like we talked about. I haven't cut the bar out yet, though. Maybe tommorow.
I was busy making a bracket for my M&W coils and making wires today plus a few little things.
The radiator in the original post, I returned that last week and bought a griffin scirroco style radiator. I test fitting it today, and I just don't think I can make room for a intercooler up front. Not with the way my turbo is mounted. So, it looks like I'll be forced to run a water/air intercooler. I know I have room for a medium sized heat exchanger up front...

I agree with bwait, remove radiator, fit new tube crossbar, make sure everything is kosher with fitment of radiator/turbo/intercooler, cut old crossbar out, install goodies, slay boosted vipers and 'busas.

Back to that front crossmember -- I agree with the need to replace the structure. On newer cars, the front bumper is bolted directly to the frame rails so it acts as the crossmember and they don't need an additional one. Whether it's done with the bumper itself or with a welded in piece, the crossmember makes the body structure stiffer and it holds the rails together in a frontal impact so they crumple instead of fold. In the FB, the front bumper is mounted to those shock-like things called energy absorbers, so it doesn't give the rails much support.
If you can fit larger dia tubing (round or square), you can get a lot more structure. If you're really crafty you can use that crossmember to house something -- oil, coolant, nitrous, moonshine, or even the most desirable of all -- some old fashioned R-12 refrigerant.

I should have an idea this weekend as to what I'm going to do. I'll have alot of stuff bolted in the engine compartment so I'll be able to take a few measurements. I know now that I won't be able to fit a air-air intercooler so I'll go with a water-air intercooler. My main issue now is the bar getting in the way of the inlet/out -20 AN fittings on the new radiator.
