Caliper Pin

I need to replace one of the calipers on my 80rx, but the damn thing has fused itself to the caliper pin. Even with massive amounts of penetrant and a tie rod fork the two still won't come apart. So I'm forced to cut the pin. However, I have no way of getting a new one. Autozone doesn't carry it, and being new to this area (NC) I don't know of any good auto stores. So my quesion is: is there another car that has compatible pins?
My local junkyard (http://www.pullapart.com/makes.asp?LocID=7) doesn't have any first gens, but it does have an 87' second gen. Would the pin from that be compatible? Maybe another car there? Otherwise, if someone has one floating around, I really need it.
As for how this happened.... My car had been sitting all winter, and the rotors rusted up. I knew this, but we were moving and I figured I'd deal with it once we got here. Big mistake. About halfway between New York and North Carolina, I heard a very large explosion and my car jumped. As I discovered very quickly at our next stop, that was the sound of my brake pad being thrust from the car. *Downshift, downshift*, god I wished I had adjusted the e-brake before leaving, or better yet, installed the new rotors that were sitting in the trunk. At this point it was late to stop, so I continued and drove the thing all the way to North Carolina. As you can imagine, the caliper got pretty chewed up. Ahh, what a fun drive...

My rebuilt calipers came with new pins (Auto parts warehouse), about 38$ or so...

You can also buy rebuilt caliper with the bracket so you dont even have to deal with the pins.... Confirm with them (call) to verify that this really the bracket that holds the caliper but I cant imagine it being anything else...

Have you tried the dealer?

Napa found some for me, but they didn't have many left. Try here: www.rockauto.com

I already had gotten replacement calipers from an 84rx, at least before they crushed the car. At the time I never thought that I'd need the pins. Of course if you got new pins, does that mean you have the old ones lying around?

As for a dealorship, I just called them. They're $16 bucks each, and a hell of a distance. I'd rather find a better source before resorting to that. Thank you though.

Are we talking front calipers? If so, I purchased a reman front caliper for my '83, and it came with a new pin and bolt in the box. Total price was under $30 exchange.
I didn't even bother to replace the bolt or pin, as the only problem I had was the old caliper was rusted inside to the point the piston would not budge, in or out.

I just checked rockauto. The only pin they have (http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,ca...EPIengineID,32) is marked as being for the rear of a GSL. If that would work, let me know. Napa on the other hand doesn't appear to carry it.

My car still has drums in the rear, so yes, I need it for the front. To recap, I already have replacement calipers. It's just the pin that I need.

Seems kinda odd that the caliper can pivot up on the pin, but not slide off.
Can you get a wrench in there, to remove the pin? If the caliper will pivot on it, it should be able to unthread as well. If you can get it out, perhaps you could then drive it out from the backside of the caliper.

Good observation. Yeah, I was able to pivot it up because the pin unscrewed as it lifted (it's on the right hand side). I tried a wrench, stipped the hell outta of the thing, no give.

Just did the runaround, tried Pepboys, Advance, Napa (worth a shot, maybe the store could have it). So, before I give in and go to the dealorship, does anyone have one? I have a paypal account and will pay for it.

Yeah, what you're describing is exactly what happened to mine. The pin will unscrew from the threads, but with the caliper still stuck on it you can't unscrew it more than 1/2 turn or so. I ended up using a small sledge hammer and a cold chisel and just beat the F'r off of there. I was pretty sure that something was going to break before it came off, but it worked ok in the end.

If you do find a source for these pins, be sure to let us know. It seems that we might need to start keeping track of where these little items are because they are really starting to get scarce...
