But, how important is timing, really?
Finally got the 7 running as well as it has (at all) in 5 years. Timing though has given me pause.
It seems that it really likes to be advanced (don't we all). At least I think that's whats going on. It runs the best in between the white timing mark and the first red timing mark.
Is there any problems with this on a stock 12a motor?

hit the archive... there's a whole write up on timing.
But to answer your question, generally. A little extra timing in an NA rotary won;t hurt anything. I used to run my leading full advance and about a 15* split for trailing. When I tore the engine down for the turbo build, the internals looked fantastic and I reused everything but the seals.
