Brake and random sensor Question

Couple of questions.

I have a 85 GSL and neither of my front brakes has a spring clip. Is it needed and do all cars have them??.

Secondly, When i bought it, The right front had no brake pad on the inside so it was using the piston to stop, so my piston is ground to bits. Do i have to replace the entire caliper or is there anywhere i can buy just a piston. Looked on Mazdatrix and RB but couldnt find one.

Found a random sensor wire hanging on the drivers side directly below the front of the drivers seat (underneath the floor). Tried tracing it in the wiring diagram but i couldnt figure out what it was, and as i have a variety of guages that dont work cant really narrow it down that way. Have a pic of it.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

i had pics of the sensor but they are failing to upload....try in a bit to put em in

The clips you are refeering to are either the ones that help keep the pads in place in the calipers or the anti-rattle clips. Without a picture I don't know which one but to answer your question, they belong there.
They do not offer replacement pistons for the calipers.
Try rockauto or blackdragonatuo for complete replacements.

I believe the anti rattle spring. Its alot longer and more like wire vs the clips that hold the pad in place. I have the pad clips but not the other thing....im assuming i should get them and throw them in hey...

cheers doc

Hey doc. Do you know off hand which piston is the right one for an 85 gsl. Checked out rockauto and they offer replacement front pistons. One is 30 bucks, the other 12. Sorry to be a nuisance

What do you think I am, A parts man? Wait, I was a parts man once, lol.

The only difference is that the dorman is not in stock and they have to order it.
You will also need the repair kit because the piston does not come with the seals.

Personally I do not recommend this course of action. The bore of that caliper could be damaged because the piston was allowed to extend past it's normal travel.
They offer a rebuilt caliper for $34.00 exchange. Sure you will have freight charges of sending yours back to them but you will have a caliper with a warranty that you know will perform and function as it was intended to...

I recommend calipers in pairs always but that is your choice.

Much better to replace the calipers, good job. Don't forget to flush out the brake system.
Have the rotors resurfaced and repack the front wheel bearings and replace the inner seals.
That sensor/wire was the overheat sensor for the catalytic converter.
