Bout Time!

I'm getting my 83 Rx-7 home within this week and I should have it going within two weeks depends on weather. lol but It's about time that I get my car home where it belongs. For sunroofs where do I find a working opening device. mine just turns and turns but nothing happens.

J_Lee18m,

Congrats! I also have an 83 that had the same problem. Until you get a new mechanism, I'll tell you how I fixed mine. J-B Weld. I took the old one apart and noticed that the inside plastic "screw" had broken or separated from the cap and its "gear". I reattached it with some J-B Weld. It's kind of a super adhesive and has held up for 8 months so far. Roof goes up and down!

Awesome I'll try that, something else I just noticed I connected the battery and the only thing that works is well the headlights lol. most of the fuses in the fuse box are good. so now I guess I need to check the inline fuses. my job is never done. lol later.

I had that problem, crawled under the dash & found a couple of connections that were separated.

J_Lee18m,

I see you said
most of the fuses in the fuse box are good
.

You might want to make sure they are ALL good before you do too much more troubleshooting.

My 83 had the same problem when I bought it. I used the same method to repair it. 1st time, it held for about 3-4 months, second time less than 24 hrs cause I locked my keys in the car. The 3rd time, I added a screw thru the center of the ****, into the brass part of the mechanism, where the long screw that holds it all together goes. That has held up for over a year now, with heavy usage. I now have a glass sunroof, and it will whistle (on the highway when closed) if not tightened down good. The screw just adds a little extra strength to the JB weld's holding power. That was what broke the 1st repair, over tightening it.
