Talking Boost gauge and dizzy question

Hey! So I finally got around to installing the vac line to the VDO boost / vac gauge I got to fill the empty space in the A-Pillar pod. It reads a nice steady 18 inHg at idle which is encouraging. It's cool, it snaps towards 0 so quick that it almost looks like it might break into the +psi side of the gauge (which it won't until next winter is over if all goes well). But here's the question, I disconnected the vac advance on the dizzy to get a port on the manifold to hook the gauge too (and because I wanted to see what that'd do). The car revs a little easier now but backfires a little more on decel. If I remember the advance retards the timing when the ECU opens the solenoid to try and counter the mech. advance during decel right? In which case it won't hurt anything but fuel economy, right?

Always spinning,
matt
