Bolt Direction does matter
Well last year when i put my car together i didnt think anythign of it. I just put my alternator on and went at the rest of the stuff. Little did i realise at the time that i put thebolt in, standing from the passenger side, back to front, where as it should be front to back. My alternator went bad this week so i got a new one. Go to remove the old alternator and what do you know, the bolt hits the intake manifold and its stuck. DAMNIT. Im just putting my car up for winter because i dont want to remove all taht **** yet. Wich should i remove btw, waterpump housing, or intake manifold? Anyways yea RX7 is put up for the winter, im sad, but it must be done sooner or later.

This is a good case for reassembly is reverse of disassembly...
It really doesn't matter which one you take off first, either one requires coolant draining (Unless you have the intake coolant passages blocked off.) and they both require new gaskets...
Whichever you feel is the least trouble to remove is what you pull.. To me, they look the same.

Just make sure if you go the waterpump route that you don't lose any of the shims and you put them back exactly as the way you found them installed otherwise you run the risk of leaking coolant all over the place.
