well, the car runs great and i've spent a long time with idle. i dont think it's really running rich. but yes, it's flooding. i'm trying to find out why i only have a problem with starting. after that she runs awesome. i just got her cranked after spraying the plugs with brake cleaner. drove her around; feels great. but i garuntee when i go out there to start her again, it'll be a struggle.

floats might be hung down which would cause flooding and richer condition on the progression, main, and acceleration circuit.

burning oil causes black plugs too.

bad compression?

have you rebuilt the carb recently

sounds like your needles valves on the floats arent closeing all the way, or at the wrong time, my carb has the same prob and is getting a rebuild,
BTW the rebuild kit from Victoria British is damn cheap $19.99

trash in the fuel can plug the carb's needle and seat, jamming it open and enrichening fuel delivery too.
