Biggest tire size on 13in rims?

Hey,

Does anyone know if i can fit 245/50/13 tires on my rear 13in rims? Or anything wider than stock. Right now i have 185/70/13 H-rated tires and don't get any traction with them, even with 15 psi of air. Thanks

Dmitri

245s on stock rims? no way in hell. 205s maybe, but even that is pushing it i think.

The reason i came up with 245/50/13 is because i've seen a corolla with 13in rims and those tires. And even then it didn't look as big as one of the tires i've seen on a 1st gen at the drag strip, but i didn't get the guys tire sizes but they looked huge, on the same rims as mine.

they may have been 13" rims but what was the deepth of them?

they were prolly 13x8 or 9. thats how they can fit 245 on them. the stock 1 gen rim (the + rim) is only 13x5.5

205 is prolly the biggest you would want to go.

I think 205/50R13 is the max that you can go..... I looked into buying a set years ago to replace the original Bridgestones. But then I had a moment of weakness and bought a set of 15" rims and tires!

You shouldn't be worrying about the biggest tires you can fit, rather the best tire size for the rims. 205 is too big for a 5.5" rim IMHO - 185/195 is what you want.

205 60 13 sits about the same width of the rim

I have seen either 225 or 215 Sumitomos and them bithces were buldging..

I used to run 185/60 in the front and 205 / 60 in the rear..

I guess you guys are right, 205's should be wide enough, especially with some good tires. Besides when it is a little bit bigger, it looks nice but when it's too big, it look a little bit odd. Thanks a lot everyone

You could do what I did, buy some '83 LE rims for cheap (14 inch) and get some Nitto drag radials.

Look...

My friend runs this same exact set up..

FC spares on 4x110 and he gave me them webbed wheels, 14x6 and he runs 14in drag slicks on them,
(on his car) What are you running as frotn runners?

I like the way the starter hangs down for theft prevention.

Gives it that "tampon-string" look.

How did he fit the FC spare up front? I have a set as well, but I thought they only fit SE's?

You can do that math with the tires and rims.

A 185 tire is 7 1/4" and goes great on a 5.5" rim. You end up with 1 3/4" unsupprted tire.

A 205 tire is 8" wide and if you put them on 5.5" rims you have a 2 1/2" of unsupported tire, thats alot and has actually exceeded the optimul range.

Ok, a 245 is more than 9 1/2" wide and on a 5.5" rim would give you 4" of unsupported tire. This would lift the edges and reduce your contact patch.
The proper rim for a 245 is a 8" rim, which puts at 1 1/2" of unsupported rim, just right.

Oh ya, four and five bolt FC rims are spaced at 114.3 mm, not the 110 mm of most of our first gens (excluding the GSL-SE); and have 38 mm offset as opposed to our 12 mm offset. It must have taken some modifications to get those FC rims to fit.

Buy good tires or but good rims and tires.
Good luck

i run 205/60/13 htr200's. the handle great, and heat up nicely when run hard. they grip alot better than my 185's both in turns and straight lines. it sounds like your looking for drag tires, so i would go with as wide as you can get as it wont relaly matter how much the tires roll since you wont really be turning much. if they are street tires, i wouldnt go with bigger than 205's. after a short burn out, launches at 4-5k arent a problem on my htr200s.

215-50-13 I have ran them on all 4's and they work just fine. A little bulge but in auto-x they stood up quite well. Just needed to keep them inflated enough so they dont get excessive outer wear.
