You would be surprised. It really depends on original owner care. I have bought FB's in both Ohio and Maryland that were absolutely perfect. This is because the owners garage kept them and only drove them in the summer. My current FB has zero rust but it has always been a Texas car. It's neglect is apparent with faded paint and interior.

Exactly my point! I had a 80,000 mile SE from SoCal... it was clean and well kept, but the sun damage really ate up the interior.

If you only care about a clean body, and plan on repainting it and gutting the interior, then yep SoCal is your best bet.
