best engine

Recently, I searched.. Best engines of all time. Not surprised to see the 13b on more than half the lists.
What are your fave 5 engines? please keep it blue collar, as most of us cannot afford a Gallardo.

mine #1 13b early, as in my FB.. super smooth, light and plenty of HP.
#2 SBC V8, iconic platform, super power, great sound.
#3 Early 8V VW 1.8 I4, flat power curve, willing engine.
#4 BMW 3.5 I6 smooth powerful, its the best inline 6 what more can I say.
#5 Honda V Tec I4, A great engine, revs!

I like Wankels, but for the best engine of all time I have to go with the ultimate rotary, the Granatelli turbine:

its a matter of opinion really. the SE's 13B seems to last much longer than all of the other 13B's that were on the market. its such a smooth engine that provides reasonable power and was praised by test editors when the GSL-SE was new. many club member have over 300k miles on their original 13B in their GSL-SE!

The above video just goes to show that when something new and potentially better comes along, many get scared of the new technology and try to have it banned as to not upset the norm.

When the rotary was not winning, no one cared. When the rotary started becoming viable and dominating in the smaller classes, nothing could be done at the time other than debate it's displacement. When it started having a chance at winning a major race, rules were already in the works to disqualify it. After winning Le Mans, the rotary proved its place in motorsports once and for all.

It is truly a shame that this happened to the rotary. Imagine if they had rotary engines in NASCAR, still in Le Mans, in F1....

I still believe that Mazda should keep the rotary alive and keep making it despite what anyone says or thinks, make it an option on the miata, even if they sell few of them. Mazda should do whatever it takes to keep it rolling and make it better as they did with the rx8 in terms of power and reliability as well.

I hope you do mean the original 4g63 from the 1ga T/E/L.... the 6 bolt is amazing. I have 2 myself, one pushing 350 and the other pushing 500. The lancers were the aftermath of the TEL. It is a great motor
