Ball Joint Press from Autozone

Just wanted to let everybody know that the ball joint press in the Autozone loan-a-tool program worked great for me. $99.00 deposit, which you get back when you return it. Doesn't matter if you damage it while in use, it is fully covered with free replacement anyway. I can't imagine damaging it though, the thing is extremely beefy.

Anyway, that's how I spent my Saturday. New ball joints, inner/outer tierod ends, heavy duty idler arm, stay rod bushings, and sway bar bushings/endlinks.

I still need to get the whole thing aligned, but I can't wait to try her out. To say that the old stuff was trashed would be putting it lightly. Lucky I didn't crash and burn. But yeah, that press was a lifesaver...

Seems like a good time to update my recent thread on this very subject:

I now have over 2000 miles on the new ball joints and they are still rock solid.

Nice write-up man. I read it before, but didn't pay too much attention to the fact that you rented the press to get it done. I didn't tack mine in either, they seem pretty damn firm to me....Had to use a four foot cheater bar to get the old ones out, and the new ones in.

A good impact wrench is a wonderful thing to have

Where did you get the heavy duty idler arm from?

You can get it at Mazdatrix..... Or you can get the same thing much cheaper at rockauto.com. Your choice. (it's the one made by Moog)
