Awesome '74 engine (13B)

Thats true my friend, but I cant see spending $$$ on smog since it will only come out once in a blue moon drive. I accumulate more cars since your LA visit. Now I have total of 7 cars inclding daily drivers.

I cant remember but its a much better location for routing the OMP line. I will give it a few months and that red paint will turn into orange.

Nah, it'll stay red. This engine we dropped in a friend's red '77 REPU has kept its color. It just got a little dusty and dull looking.
We painted it in late '04 and it has held up fine. I used the same paint.

It was Krylon Rust Tough enamel. RTA 9210 Radiant Red
It's really not a very friendly paint to work with. It takes forver to dry. I'd have prefered engine paint or something that dries in 12 minutes, like a similar shade of red Krylon, but this is what we used on the S5 engine, and it held up fine, so I used it on the '74 engine. So far, so good.
Oh, and you can't respray because the underlying paint will wrinkle. It says additional coats must be sprayed within 2 hours or after 48 hours. Maybe I missed the window and that's why it wrinkled? It was just on the pulley hub so nobody can see it.

I took a short video of the truck running. It only had half of the exhaust done at the time. It's much quieter now.

Wow, it is a lot quieter now after adding the other glasspack. It's the perfect volume in the cab; quiet at idle, decent at cruise, and some volume when you get on it. The flow is not restricted in any way as everything is straight through and a constant diameter. Perfect as far as I'm concerned, and I'm a real stickler when it comes to exhaust.

Yep, it was stupidly loud. But it sounded good all the same. Mellower tone than my GLC (which sounds like a chainsaw on crack), but higher overall volume. The second glasspack cut it WAY down and it is now very pleasant, both inside the truck and out.

I banged on the gas tank to get the guage level sender to come up, which worked by the way, but it must have jarred something loose because now the carb is partially clogged. It wants to kinda run on one rotor until you rev it up a bit. I suspect something is clogging the idle circuit. I'm going to pull off the carb and tear it down to see what's wrong.
It would be a good idea to add a fuel filter in the engine bay like I did in the white REPU. After I added it, there were no more carb problems.

Just some progression pictures. Sorry the carb is so dirty. It's the second one I've tried on this truck since I got it running. I thought the other carb had something clogging the idle circuit but it turned out to be a massive vacuum leak in the intake manifold. The other carb will go on another project.

Just an update. The engine now runs nice and smooth, which is actually pretty impressive considering the carb I threw on there (pictured above) has one of the choppiest primary circuits under part throttle I've ever felt out of any Hitachi. It was very choppy on the white REPU and the GLC.
Perhaps the smaller ports in the Awesome '74 engine are more to its liking? Also the engine now has a smooth idle compared to the funny vibration it had with the vacuum leak - it literally felt like there was an engine imbalance before - which I kind of expected using a letter A rotor with a B, but maybe not as extreme as it was. It wasn't much, but it shook the steering wheel and front bumper. It was just a vacuum leak.
It's a lot smoother now, and should handle a light steel flywheel when the time comes to upgrade the power. Stay tuned for that...

i have a 13b 4 port in a s3 mid street port with a weber 45, trying to get parts to turbo any advice would be great, looking at a s5 turbo but having issues with the exhaust manifold (will a standard one fit it you redrill the stud holes or will the ports line up differently?
