Who autocrosses their car and how well do you do? What mods have you done to your car? What would you recommend as first mods to do?

I do fairly well. I can outhandle quite a few cars, sans vettes. I've got RB springs, Koni reds in the front, Tokico Blues in the back. As for motor, SP 12a, RB SP exhaust, Sterling carb, ported intake, Cart FP, Holley FPR.

EDIT: Toyo Proxes RA-1's 205/60R13's are also a big plus.

I actually bought my car just for that purpose. It is a blast and performs better each time out. Just remember that as you modify the car you will move up in class. You need to see what cars you will compete against to decide what mods you want to do. I run E-stock right now and compete against Fieros, N/A MR2s, etc. If I move into SS, I compete against cars with a lot more horsepower like Mustangs and Camaros. Once my driving skills improve I will move up because my car will out handle them.

I have a free-flow exhaust (+1 prep pt), 215/50/13 Sumitomo HTR-200s (0 pts) and I have adjusted the front struts for a bit more camber (0 pts). Over the winter I will likely change the suspension but that will put me into SS so I need to make sure I am ready for that.

I guess the point to be made is that you can autocross these cars with no mods and still have a blast.

i've talked to a lot of people who remove the rear sway bar for auto-x. i'd say a heavier front sway bar and no rear would be pretty damn sticky.

ya for my car I was thinking for a street, weekend auto-xer to run tokico hp's or illumina's all around, Racing beat springs and a racing beat front sway bar. As far as I have read this seems to be a good performance/street setup... So if you are going to auto-x do the suspension first (once the car is mechanically sound of course), then tires, you may want to do weight reduction, maybe add a roll cage. After all these things and after tons of on road practice I would start to modify the engine for more power.

All auto-x racers seem to agree that the best way to get faster is practice. A fast car is no good without a good driver...

yes, practice is KEY!! but you need to have a descent car to work with while doing that or else you are liable to pick up bad habits unless you are a good driver. but just in my opinioin RB springs are way to soft for autox. i fought excessive body roll and i was using the illuminas all the way around with them. i would highly recommend going to a much higher spring rate than that. and yes rear sway bars are should be thrown in the weeds. you should check out some of the threads in the racing section. there were some good posts on different setup packages that guys are running that you should check out before buying anything

good luck to ya

I autox my 7, but i'm completely uncompetitive in my class, i'm just doing it for fun and the seat time. I'm running CSP due to the mods on my car, and i'm probably the only one in the class without slicks, but it's still fun non the less.

i would first get some r compound tires and light wide wheels. because they stick better, less rotational weight, and autocrossing chews up tires. so having a dedicated set is better than going thru street tires all the time.

then do a front end alignment to get more negative camber, and some more positive caster. remove front sway bar

then go autocrossing. 1st gen does well in many classes it is classed in.

does anyone go canyon racing in their FB's? my buddy has been doing it a lot lately in his S2000. i havent rode with him yet or even seen him, but he's always boasting. there would be nothing sweeter, than to out handle the s2000 at his own game. lol
