Id sooner drive a Ford Festiva than that little terd!! Mazda and Mistsu both have both gone down hill with every vehicle they have built after 95 (except for the evo, and mazda speed series). But oh well, Im sure they fall on their face soon enough.

If Mazda put out a 13b Renesis into a 2 door, 2 seater, hatchback, RWD platform, I would buy it.

don't flame me for this, but i don't like it at all. mazda was built on taking risks and i don't see the drive there anymore. i figure baby steps is what we need. give me a turbo rx8 two door in the next two years and i might buy. from then take steps to make a second gen of rx8's if you have to. the rx7 is already established in history, i see no reason to take steps back. but then again if mazda somehow offered a package on the current rx8 that would put little puerto rican flags on the damn car i would have to buy. damn puerto rican blood. mazda has me by the *****, i am mazda's bitch.

i read somewhere (i forgot which magazine but it was something about upcoming cars) that mazda might release again an rx7 in 2007 that looks like the rx8 but is shorter because it will be a 2 seater instead of the 4 seater rx8. i think it also said it will come with the renisis rotary engine. making it shorter they say might be an option of a convertible model. ill stick to my 1st gen for now..
oh yes im pretty sure mazda knows whats up. im sure they know that rx is for rotaries only so no worries people

Say what you want about the car. I don't care what it looks like. As long as they are producing rotary powered vehicles we are in good shape. Cars that appeal to the masses, with rotaries, are better for us in the long run.
Think about it, If rotary engines are still being made, then R & D is still going on. The possiblity of improving the engine futher is also there. As long as it goes into a resonable car, it has a reasonable chance of success. In the long run, we have the chance of a better engine making it into a better car.
And, if it doesn't make it into a better car, I'm gonna buy a wrecked crappy one, yank that somnabitch and put it into an RX2, or RX3.......Muhahahahahaha

I dig on rotaries just like the nxt guy but if the best Mazda can do is 18 mpg in the city with the RX-8 the rotary, as an engine for the masses, is sucking wind. Let's be honest...cars are being produced with more power which are also more efficient. That's an improvement no matter how you slice it.
Mazda's engineers are going to have to solve the rotaries thirst for fuel if they want to see this engine draw buyers. Until they do this I wouldn't fault them for using a piston powered motor if it fit the bill (Miata anyone) better than a rotary. It's just good engineering.

Here goes my $.02
From what I read a while ago Mazda has killed all rumors of there being another RX7. They said it wasn't in their best interest to market another sports car.
ANOTHER magazine stated that it would make ALOT of sense for them to market another rotary powered car as ONE car in their model line was NOT sufficient enough to justify them producing rotary engines.
As for this concept, the magazine that I read said that this would be the next MX3.
NOW for my final rant, I just don't like the looks of the RX8 or this new concept. I feel that they should redesign the RX8 and make it more appealing as well as bring a new RX7 to market that would be some how retro.

Sometimes it helps to actually read the full news item about Mazda's views.
1. They are looking at producing a cheap 'sports car' costing less than the MX-5 in the form of a 3 door hatch.
2. The rotary engine is expensive to produce, so this cheap car will be powered by 4cylinders.
3 A hatchback is cheaper to build than a convertible like the MX-5, again the design will be price driven like the cheap steering and brakes of the initial RX-7s.
4. RX is for rotary engines, MX for piston engines.
As everyone seems to be speculating, my suggestion is that it will be MX-7, there will be a Gen 2 RX-8 next year, and a new version of the RX-7 will never be built.
However, if the MX-7 comes out numerous people will try to drop a rotary into the engine bay at the first opportunity. In the hands of rotary enthusiasts it will be another RX-3. Recently I was interested in RX-3s with 12AT engines and visited www.ausrotary.com. Prices and performance were a revelation for a 30+ year old car, and showed what you can do with a hot rotary.
Long live the MX-7!

Mx7, smimx7. Where you comiing from Paul?? (A) You need a rotary engine. (B) Then you need the first gen"s beauty. But our buggies are 20+ something years old, it would be nice if Mazda would make a replacement. A renesis rotary in a car that looks remotely like my sweet ride, I'd buy.

has anyone noticed that underneath the mazda emblem on the front air dam that there is what appears to be the same type of rotor symbol they use on the tail end of the rx-8? Just an observation.

it's actually the one from the front of the RX-8. That whole bottom part of the front end is ripped off an RX-8, as is the rotor/V shape on the hood. The front end is just the blending of an RX-8 and the kabura, plus some improvised headlights.

If it's going to be cheap, then it will not be rotary. One possible option is to offer a range of engine options including a rotary as Mazda did on 929 versions like the Cosmo. Recently the approach of a wide range of engine options is available on the Golf and Lancer right up to a stock 400hp. Mazda has to pitch the design so as not to compete with its own 3 SP. I doubt many Gen 1 owners will go for it with their contempt for ricer style hot hatchs. Based on Lancer prices, the hottest version costs nearly four times the base model.
As far as Mazda is concerned the 8 is a natural progression from the FD and have no intention to develop another 'flagship' sportscar. I like the Gen 1 shape for its simple clean lines, thus I continue driving my 85 rather than any of this year's crop of fashionable two seaters.

I like the looks and cannot even think of it as an RX anything, it would HAVE to have a Rotary in it. HOPEFULLY, they do it and everyone (almost) will be happy.... if not, oh well.

As far as I'm concerned this is a MX-5 with a hard-top and priced reasonably.
MX-5's are far too expensive, I dig them, but wouldn't buy one new. This car is a decent idea as long as it fits in 15-20 thou mark. It would undercut the Solstice in price, out-move any goddamn Scion. Nissian just recently had their Urge concept which pretty much seemed made to serve the same niche.
Small and rear-drive is getting trendy. Its like the ******* eighties all over again.
FB's, AW11's, AE86's, S12's. I hate internal designations.
Save the RX-7 title for a rotary powered super car a la NSX/Skyline.
