I just got a fc alt on ebay, and i want to clean it up before i put it on the car. is there anything i need to know before i take apart the alternator? I want to be able to maybe wetsand the surface and toss some high temp paint on? anything i could be careful about?

Well I wouldn't take it apart, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. They clean up real nicely with a wire brush, only takes a few minutes. If you paint it, it will be obvious and probably start peeling after awhile, better to just leave it the way it was meant to be, IMHO.

Just follow the FSM instructions for dis-assembly, you should be fine.

I powdercoat mine.

I sandblasted mine then "polished" it with a soft wire brush in the drill press. Came out looking great...see before and after pics!
