Anyone use a high flow cat?

Ok, so I have no smog **** on my car anymore. I've got an RB header to straight pipe, then the muffler.

People here in CA are **** about emissions. I got pulled over the other day and the cop said that I might want to do something about "that little problem". If you stand at the rear of my car when it's running, it's enough to make your eyes water.

So, I was thinking a high flow cat. Anyone here have one? Any opinions on which is the best/worst, etc.?

I am running a hi-flow cat. I have 13b with header, into presilencer, into a hi-flow cat, then 2.5 inch piping to an N1 muffler. Sounds awesome and passed emissions.
I think the cat held up ok, but it probably won't last for more than a year. BUt it is there for visual. :-)

I have the miller performance cat, sold as "gray market" by mazdatrix and it sounds good, and passed emissions with flying colors, then again I also have the air pump and smog stuff still in tact, I doubt you would pass without all that stuff working.

I'm running a Summit hi-flo cat. And NO it hasn't melted. The car is tuned to spec, has all smog. Racing Beat header, RX7Com somebody's muffler, custom exhaust work by local yocal, blah, blah, blah.

Passed emissions with lots of room to spare.

Hey

I modified mine.........removable straight pipe..........then I can throw in a cat to smog.......then remove it again..

All the smog with a power pulse muffler..........
Big difference over my clogged cat.........

Was running the Random Tech high flow 3-way cat, but I had the air pump still on the engine also....it is my understanding from either peejay or pele that there isn't enough "loose" oxygen in the exhaust for the cat to catalyze with the bad exhaust emissions, so a functional air pump is necessary to clean it up enough to pass emissions...

Of the people that replied, what kind of cat do you have? 2-way or 3-way?

Well, a 2-way cat will simply be a closed cat....big "in" tube and big "out" tube...the 3-way cat will be the same except a small tube will be coming out from the the body of the catalytic converter. That tube has to have pressurized air fed to it, which is mixed internally to help the chemical process...so did the Bonez have any little tube sticking out of it? The Random Tech one I got did, so mine was a three way...

Lets say you scrap all the emissions ****. Can you hook the air pump straight to the little air input pipe on the cats?

Yes, but the problem is that at high rpms, all that extra O2 is going to cook the catalytic converter...you need a way to switch it back to the air cleaner or bleed off the air pump output above 3500 rpm or so...

When I bought my 85 GSL this spring it had the Bonez high flow cat system and RB muffler. The car ran really well with the stock Nikki. The guy I purchased it from lives in Atlanta, so emmisions were required. His slips from emmisions were really, really low. I live in a non-emmissions state so the entire thing came off and a RB dual system went on.

PS- I have the entire thing Bonez/RB muffler for sale. PM me if your interested. They're both like new and I need the $$ to get a Sterling/Carl Nikki!!!
