Anyone running ONLY a powerpulse muffler?
I'm wondering if it's worth the money to ditch the "dual muffler" system I got now and get one. After awhile I will piece together a street port exhaust system.. For now I just need something queter 'cause this just ain't cutting it..

it's deffinately worth it. i have the streetport system on a streetported 13b and loud exhaust is never an issue. the exhaust will have a "tinny" sound to it with just the RB muffler alone. the presilencers give it a much deeper tone. but it WILL be quieter than what ur currently running.

I disagree. I feel that its overrated, expensive and made my car slow. Its a mistake for installling a complete RB exhaust system which I acquired from trading parts. Now my FB wont run fast as it used to be. Quiet but thats all. WHen I find time, I will reinstall my dual 2.25 exhaust to 1 magnaflow. and yeah, Im still kicking myself in the *** for making the same mistake again. Mistake I made many years ago.
thats my humble opinion.

I have a street ported 13b 4 port and was running two indivdual pipes from the headers with two presilencers and then a y pipe to a magnaflow cat back exhaust...I'll just quote Homer Simpson "I want it to sound like the whole world is coming to an end vrooom Vroom VROOOOM". The Magnaflow was waaaay too loud...loud to the point where I had to where ear plugs when I drove my car. Therefore I took off the magnaflow and put the racing beat power pulse back on (it's the 84-85 one in racing beat's website). There is a huge difference in the exhaust noise - the racing beat has a nice deep tone and that only gets loud at high rpms where the magnaflow sounded loud all the time. My rotary mechanic said that I'm losing about 10-15hp with the racing beat exhaust 2 1/4 inch compared to the magnaflow 2 1/2 inch to 3 inch outlet, but I think it's a small price to pay for being able to hear myslef think when I drive my car now. I not too fond of the idea of losing so much horse power so I have been thinking about changing it to a flowmaster cat back, the 17 inch one they have for suv's to be exact - that way I can have a better free flowing cat back and not have the exhaust as loud as it was with the magnaflow. Any input as to this being a good idea or not?

I have two "straight through" mufflers. The rear muffler is magnaflow 2.5" C/C while the center one is a 3 chamber dynomax. I had ONLY the magnaflow muffler before the dynomax. Very loud, but after the dynomax I did lose some top end.. in 70mph+ range during a drag race. Worth the trade off howerver.
So, I guess my next question is: Is there a better solution for noise redution, yet keeping the power I got now?
I am thinking maybe good quality glass packs (if there is such a thing) and a big chambered muffler in the back?

Stay away from dynomax and flowmaster. They sound like **** IMHO. In my cars, a glasspack only last less than a week...thats on daily driving and putting over 50 miles/day. Well, thats how I like it. Makes it quiet to make my wife happy for a couple of days. When its gone and gets lil loud, I tell her thats its her imagination.
Contact Rene @ RX3mist.com. In my last visit to his shop, he recommended a brand (I cant remember the name) which suppose to last longer than the cheapo ones. Roughly $75. Remember: Rene owns a muffler shop so he knows his stuff
Other than that, you want it quiet, I recommend the FC/TII presilencers as they are 2.5 pipe instead of SA/FB's 2.

It's difficult to have good-flowing yet quiet exhaust. Althought my exhaust is 3", I have one 28" long 4" round resonator and a Magnaflow 6" round can with a turndown, my car is really loud driving about. At full throttle it's a good volume, and cruising on the freeway isn't bad, but I definitely take it easy when I come near cops...

Been doing a little searching. Apparently, they make "steelpacks", or used to, that use steel instead of fiberglass.. Supposedly they last much longer. Not sure if they still make them, still looking for a place to buy from..
