converted to multiling irs suspension...
(problem, dont know what length to make controll arms/links)

and replacing the old rear end on my 83 rx7 aka

yes brakes steering and suspension all included in the swap, its pretty simple other than the steering took a bit of work, hah the brake lines bolted right up too, it was easy, but ya a bit off topic, i unfortunately dont have allot of pics of my project yet, but if you do a search theres the original pdf file about the swap its helped pretty much everyone who has done the swap, just search fc subframe
here it was written by omid, and its very helpful it convinced me to do the swap,

ok heres whats new, i got my donor fc rearend, its complete its the whole unit that bolts into a fc, but its funny cause im only going to be using a few componenets from it including brakes, hubs and ltd slip pumkin/housing. the rest will consist of a crossmember that will mount to a first gen rx7 frame and come down around the fc irs pumkin, allowing a spot for adjustable chromoly controll arms to be mounted, it should be a pretty clean, lightwieght setup that will allow for a much better handling car ltd slip, bigger brakes, better bolt pattern with a choice of 4 or 5 bolt, i cant wait to have it finished,

still lookng for that formula if anyone knows anything about it, but thanks for the input and help so far guys i know this is a pretty directed thread that doesnt apply to allot of people,. im just hoping it will finally give us more extreme first gen guys some options to finally swap in fc irs parts, i'll be sure to keep you all up to date on my progress and hopefully somebody can help me find out what lengths to make my controll arms, other than that my fc irs project is on track and looks promising,

Paul, the more I look around the more I am partial to the multi-link double wishbone design. It would allow for all kinds of adjustment in caster and camber. From what I understand the S13/S14 use this type of suspension setup. I believe it looks like this.

http://www.susprog.com/images/Susp19.jpg

It would be nice to use some sort of turnbuckle setup to allow for the adjustment and lock nuts to lock the setup in place. I have got to get back over to the Eng-tips forum and ask some more questions.

yea toxic d double wishbone is a great desing, but dont you think its a bit too complicated compared to the h beam design

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\JZUAWFJB\Susp04[1].jpg

this is what i thought would work best, because you only have to worry about 1 link up top, those little adjustable controll arm ends are not cheap, about 30$$ a pop, so if i only have one controll arm up top that eliminates 60$$,

i found measurements that kit car builders use in the lengths of the controll arms so all i have to do now is get crackin on building this thing, aka making a jig, and figuring out mounting points and the overall design to allow the least wieght and most strength,

i should have allot more time to work on this project now that im going to school and not working full time

with the double wishbone design im not sure the measurements that i found are going to apply. also i did plan on using all of those adjustable controll arm pieces everywhere necissary to allow full adjustment of the camber and caster whether or not i use h beam irs.

thanks again for keeping interest in this project toxic d.

update,

ok its not huge news or anything but ive been working on this a bit in my spare time allong with assembling my motor, and other such stuff// but heres my progress on the custom irs for fb utilizing fc components, and its not just on paper anymore, i got a doner rear subframe, and got to work on it,

the pictures arent the clearest but,/

http://photobucket.com/albums/b345/a...t=DSC01205.jpg

what your looking at is a jig i made to hold the hubs in place so i dont make the unit to big or small that it would stress the halfshafts, next i will be making a mount to the fb's unibody frame, and a small frame around the pumpkin, after that will be designing the controll arms... before all that will be allot of measuring and still more research, im learning about centers of gravity and such right now and how to lower them and suspension geometry its not really fun, but i wanna make this thing once and do it right,

tell me what you think,

thanks guys and toxicd for all your help so far,

reasons i have had absolutely no time for the rx7 and this project

1. school and work

3. no money ( school and not so much work)

Someone a while ago began to fab a Miata rear end into a FB. The measurements were much closer to the FB then the FC were. That's all I remember.

he had to cut apart the whole rear rearend and tub/weld in new frame material to make it work.. and we never found out how the car turned out cause he sold it.. or it was for sale...

what actually looks pretty close is the 3rd gen subframe.. its got the same shape as the fb subframe where it mounts.. but i think nobody has done it cause its pricey..

i really want to start working on the independant front and rear suspension for my fb.. but im not currently working.. so ill have to wait.. school is priorety.. as lame as that sounds..

iether way i have a gsl se rearend now which should keep me happy at least till i sort out this rearend...
