the crankcase ventilation hose and canister traps fuel vapors instead of letting them seep and cause this smell you speak of. the canister is located on the passenger side, next to the strut tower. it has two hoses that connect to it. i wish i had a pic. i could not access your page, so i hope this info will be helpful.

Total BS in my opinion. As you may know by now, all my cars got a 48 IDA.. All you need is a fuel line to go to carb, no need for return (but it would be nice to have one). As long as there is no gas leak (float set correctly, no other leaks), then there should be no gas smell (except for raw gas at high RPM). Other than that, it there should be no smell at idle. WEll running rich is a different story. I like to run my engine rich.

i thought i was.. but i just put the idle down and is now idling perfectly at around 800 rpm and operating temerature.
its a bit low when cold..
ill try to take a picture of my engine bay so u guys can tell me if theres any leaks

hey its on the passengers side, i dont have one but ive seen where there supposed to go.... just plugging the holes will stopn the smell, but if you have the cannister then you might as well use it

THe only time that I experienced gas smell in the engine compartment is when my tank's breather line was clogged. when its clogged, the pressure will built up and the gas will go up thru the return line. It happened after the FB sat for several months while the engine was out for porting. When I got it back on the road, I noticed gas smell too when the tank is 100% full. I just cleaned out the check valve and other lines and the smell went away.
