Anyone have a S5 N/A in their FB?
I've got a '83 LE and I am doing a turbo swap into my '89. Now seeing as how I will have a perfectly good S5 engine, harness, ECU etc. I want to know if anyone has ever put one into an FB? I know running a dual carb setup would save me alot of hassle but I'd rather just drop it in. I know how to but a 13B into a FB, I just don't know how badly I want to put all that electronic crap into my car. So if anyone has done this or has some suggestions let me know.

contemplating this one too, 90% of the harness goes straight from the ecu to the engine, theres just a few things to hook up, power, the ignition to name a couple
in a light car, the 140-160 you can easily squeeze out of it would be a lot of fun

Yeah the FB is 400lbs lighter than mine and the gearing in my opinion is better in the FB also. I will do a few mods to it to get a little more power. I may just run dual carb with a street port and save the hassle of wiring. 200hp would be even nicer.

I gotta s5 in my 83 gsl. Best swap EVER. (aside from a turbo set up I guess) The fact that I decided to go carbed was in my opinion a great choice as she runs smooth and has nice low, mid and high end power. There is nothing to the swap but switching a few things here and there ie: SE oil pan, 12a front cover and other minor mods. The end result is a very fun and quick 1st gen!

The S5 N/A engine is a great powerplant.
I see no reason to swap it in and not use the factory intake and EFI.Its far better than the S4 stuff, has a real check engine light, has a wide, usable powerband with a great high RPM redline and the broad provided by the variable intake system will make a light little 1st gen feel even lighter.
Any and all work needed to do the S5 N/A swap, are the same as the S5 TII(which I have).Obviously the intake/exhaust plumbing will be easier than the TII,but mainly its just EFI fuel delivery, front cover/OMP details and left side wiring. Not a lot of work considering you have this forum full of knowledge, to get advice from. Its all been covered and done before, all you have to do is copy........not that a S5 N/A swap is run of the mill.....infact,they are probably one of the more rare swap choices, which is a shame because its a very fun engine when left "mostly" factory.

I also have a S4 TII engine but I doubt the drivetrain will hold up to the power I want to make with it. I have a friend who dropped a stock S4 TII engine into a '84 GSL-SE. A few tweaks (boost controller etc.) made 230 hp to the wheels and he chewed up drive shafts left and right. The car ran high 12's however. I figured a FB drivetrain can handle a lightly modded S5 N/A engine.

It doesnt take too much to have a 1st gen taking 300HP reliably for the long term.
Ive been doing it for almost 7 years now and nearly 50K miles.
TII trans will handle almost anything you throw at it,pretty easy install.
There are plenty of big brake options now, unlike back in early 01 when I first went TII.
For about 200 bucks,a large driveline can be made to handle the power easily.
The 84-85 large axle rearends can take a bit of power so long as you do a few things......
Dont drift.
Dont clutch drop at redline.
Dont go too big/sticky with the rear tires.
Dont drag race at every stop sign or race irresponsibly.
Dont use a rearend that has 200K on the original oil.
