Anyone have experience with atkins 48dco sidedraft kit?
Has anyone ever ran the Atkins side draft weber setup on their 13b or 12a?
This is the one I'm speaking of:
84-91 13B N/A Rx7 Side Draft Manifold w/ 48DCO...
How does it compare to the IDA or wrap-around DCO/DHLA style racing beat setups? Looks like it should have quite a lot of top end with such short runners, but the carb is also in a position to be exposed to a lot more exhaust heat. I have never actually seen this setup in person. Anyone have experience?

I've seen it and it really comes close to the frame rail so the height of the air cleaner is critical.
You will need a good heat shield I would think to keep the bowls cool. Your right about the
performance, better at the top and less torque down low that the RB wraparound. I would
expect it performs close to an IDA because of the short runners. You will probably have some
stumbling issues on corners like all DCOE type carbs do. Tuning and driving around the issue
is easy to master tho.

If it comes close to the frame then that mean the velocity stacks would not function correctly. I'm just going to get my Dellorto wrap around setup running properly. I just need somebody to tune it, as I don't have any time. I haven't been able to work on the car in something like 6 months :/

Ran one of these for a long time, and if you have the K&N filter setup on it then being close to the passenger fender doesn't matter for the velocity stacks.... the K&N filter has a plate on that side so it would have to draw air from the sides anyway. I would suggest a heat shield though because the carb and intake are directly above the exhaust. Cleksutin bought my setup which was tuned by Skip at KDR in Allentown PA.

Guess you aren't going to run a K&N filter on you wrap around filter then either. Also since the IDA carb velocity stacks were close to the hood those didn't work either... No issues with design on the lake cities style manifold that I know of...most certainly not that the carb can't breath right that's for sure...

Well I am running open velocity stacks with no filters, at the moment. I'm in the process of designing an airbox to provide filtered air, but also still use the ram effect of the stacks.

short intake manifolds, less overall torque, very peaky powerband, poor choice for street driving.. long intake manifolds, much broader rpm torque band, and powerband, best results for street driving.. look at the intake manifolds mazda designed throughout the years, they kept making them longer for a reason, improve what the rotary lacks, torque!

Fixt. Naturally aspirated rotaries have torque. I have pictures to prove it. The torque of a naturally aspirated rotary engine just comes in at a higher RPM than what everybody is used to... If you want to change the RPM that the torque peak happens at, change the length of the intake runners.
