Anyone ever done this?
I'm sure someone has but here goes:
Does anyone have the re-speed front crossmember and rack and pinion conversion first off? How did it work out for you? any problems? I already bought one it's just not here yet. And having that with the extra space it allows for the FC oil pan has anyone center mounted a FC 13B in the car successfully? If not then I guess I'll be the test dummy.
The motor is almost fully assembled again. I got it used with 90,000 on the car. I will be using a 12A transmission or a 13B FB transmission. Haven't decided yet. Also if anyone wants it I will be posting the S5 NA trans in the for sale add as soon as I get a new battery for my digital camera.
I know everyone is going to say use the front cover from a SE and all that just save your breath unless you know of a way to make the electronic OMP work on that cover flawlessly. My friend is already starting to measure for the fabricated mount brackets for the chassis. They will be made of chromoly since there's a big sheet left from his race car fabrication. Making two mounts is nothing and we won't be ruining the chassis to do it. I'll be posting pics as I go I'm just waiting on parts for now.
Thank you in advance for any intelligent responses!

Thanks for that response I could not find that when I did a search. i suck at searching I suppose. As i assumed that set of pics confirms our Idea for the center mounting of the engien leaves plenty of room. Thanks Kentetsu!

Its a pretty new system,so there isnt a lot out yet on its highs and lows.
I imagine there will be minimal issues,as it appears to be a superbly designed system. If it allows the use of FC style mounts and oilpan, then thats even better, considering the throngs of people wanting to do S5 engine swaps all of the sudden.
For the record, the S5 OMP can be fitted to the GSL-SE front cover in a fully functional capacity. It requires some minor TIG welding and machining of the pad.I did it 50K miles ago and have been running my fully smog legal S5 engine since early 02'.

Well like I said here's some pics of some of the stuff so far:
A pic of my car from the front
A pic of the parts donor car from the front
The parts car is pretty damn nice too bad it's just for parts for my car and wasn't available when I bought my car as you can see in the following pics
A pic of my car with the fuel tank removed already
A pic of the GSL-SE tank just before I installed it
One of the underside and the fuel filter installed and all the GSL-SE hoses and pipes already installed. This is a very easy straight foward swap btw
One of my cat wondering why I'm under the car where he likes to sleep
The S5 NA engine all ready to go just gotta put the Alt and Air pump on it. All the hoses are new all the seals are new and a bunch of it is nickel plated. New water pump. new ECT you get the idea
One of the bracket i made for the ignition coils. The coils pictured are just for mock up the other ones are much nicer
One of the GSL-SE's DF...... ignition that someone did. One accel coil was missing when i got the car as well as the AC pump. This install looks pretty messy in my opinion. The bracket is very nice though
And lastly the engine bay of the GSL-SE kinda dirty and old but everything is in pretty good shape surprisingly. Don't know if it runs since I don't care and the ignition was modified. Everything else is bone stock on the car. Accept some KYB struts. I will be selling all of the car I don't use so keep an eye open if you need any of this stuff

Cool another guy with a rack and pinion. Did you also opt out for the quick ratio rack? I have all my parts now and should be installing it shortly. 82transam should have his all done up sooner or later also.

Hell yes I got the quick ratio one. What color did you get I got the black cause I'm not really one for the bling. Plus my car is going to be white so I thought it to be best for me. I also got the heim joint rod ends but may not use them if after driving a bit seems to rough for the street. Just picked up a daily driver so I can keep the miles of the new motor. I'd like it to last at least two years.

Well, dj55b has got everyone beat on bling. Billy powdercoated his in the custom dormant green that I pc'ed some other parts in his engine bay with. Beautiful color, pita to work with. Still waiting for him to post pics when he get the rack installed.

Yeah don't care if it runs. What's so hard to believe about that? I have a engine with 30 more hp why would I care about a SE engine. I'm not ever going to use it so who cares. I really busy with customer cars plus three of my own there isn't enough hous in the day to worry about that engine. Buy the car and you can see if it runs. I'm sure it probably does anyways.
