Anyone care to help a newbie?

I just turned 17,Never really into cars that much.Well one day looking in the paper for cheap cars i found a 85 Rx for about 1,100.My parents paid most of the money for it.

Well i figured i would just drive it till it's dead then worrie about getting a new car or someshit. But my friend who has a 79 and a 83 (i belive 83) told me that the engine is in really good shape.I would hope so being that a old lady had it before me and was the original owner so it only has 60k on the engine.

Well i pretend i know what's up with rx-7's around him,Tell you all the truth i got no clue where 2 start. What's some things i can put on it to just make it a better car.I don't have a *** load of money so yeah please anyone wanna help.Sorry if i waisted your time by makeing you read this.

P.S i already got my 18 foot high bike rack with 4X4 spoiler for it

joke.

If anyone want's to talk to me over aim or email here are my contacts

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new rex. If I were you I would concentrate on maintenance issues at this time. Oil changes (engine, tranny, rear axle), coolant flush and tune-up (spark plugs, cap & rotor, wires, air filter, fuel filter, etc), check brakes, etc. Your car is 18 years old and you don't know what kinda maintenance has been done on it so I'd start there. Good luck!

Also: as you contemplate changes to your car, consider whether what you're doing will add to the longevity and/or performance aspects of your car, or if it is merely a trendy, visual mod that you will tire of as soon as it becomes unfashionable.

Many of us consider 1st gens to be of classic caliber, both asthetically and mechanically. It pays to keep it that way.

Think about whether you want to portray yourself and your car as independent and unique, or if you want it to say, "I'm a ricer too".

Your sense of humor makes me think the former.

Good luck. Seems like you've found a gem.

$1100 for 60k miles? You got a SWEET deal. DO NOT modify it. Like the other posts said, just keep it in good shape.

Or sell it, you should be able to get at least double that back.

tasteful, performance oriented mods (RB exhaust, which looks stock; K&N air filter, etc.) might be the order of the day.

since you're new to rotaries, you might want to check out http://www.rotorhead.ca/ref_engine_rotary.php so you know what's going on under the hood
