Anybody seen this Rack and Pinion before?

Hey guys, I bought a parts car and it came with this Rack and Pinion setup. He said it was made by CP racing. Does anybody know anything about it? Do I have everything? Any information is appreciated, I havent been able to find much.

Yeap thats an old skool CP Racing rack kit for the FB's, its uses a modified VW Rabbit rack and pinion.

I used to work for CP Racing many years ago.

Did some more searching lol they used to be just up the road from me! How come ive never heard of them and I've lived in this area for 17 years?

Found a couple pictures, nothing documenting the install...and every thread is from 2005 back, none of the pictures work.

LMAO and I have they're light kit too! Which everybody hates.

I never had one (they went out of business before I had the money to buy one lol) but one set of tabs attaches to the control arm bolts and the other set attaches to the holes in the frame for the steering box/idler arm.

That large plate with the lower column section attaches where the steering box would be. Other than that all I can tell you is the rack is from a ~81 or so rabbit, and I'm pretty sure you needed a power steering column upper half to make this work (again, I could be wrong, it's been quite a while lol)

Standard enthusiastic response that you actually received what you ordered.

Yep, completely different CP racing.

That rack kit had binding issues caused by the u-joints operating as too high a misalignment angle. You should swap them out for motorsport quality u-joints.

Actually, a friend gave it to me (after he bought it for something like $40-50) because he didn't want to drill holes in his firewall.

Irony: I don't put those bolts in because they are a PITA to access, since you have to disassemble half of the wiper linkage to get the cowl off. At any rate, there's no evidence of fretting between the brace and the firewall, so I'm not sure those bolts are even needed.

How the helll do I get my hands on one of these? Are there reproductions anywhere? Maybe I can Frankenstein one? Not as a neccesity or anything just would be a fun project. I can live with my gearbox if it isn't possible but oh the possibilities lol.

Much better setup:
Steering System : 79-85 : Stage II Rack/Pinion Conversion

I remember looking into the CP Racing setup back in the day but I was a poor college student at the time.

Much better, yes, but more expensive. Don't get me wrong, I know it's more expensive for a reason. It's the setup I'd like to have if I could have what I want.

That being said...

I would love to have someone make some measurements of this other kit and post it up. Sort of a DIY thing. I have access to materials and a machine shop, so I might be able to afford to make this on my own. I suppose I could figure it out myself when and if the engine comes out, but if you have one laying right there, it might good to post up more details for the people here.

Yeah I've been looking at that one but same problem. Poor college(sorta, erm) student. I'm barely bringing in 2k a month. I'm on board with DerrickS idea though. Lets see some measurements! Maybe he'll be a badass and start making them for all us sa/fb holdouts. For a price of course.
