any suggestions on this swap

heres my deal, i have a turbo FC with a 13b60-1 turbo and all supporting mods, i started parting it out and now ive decided that i want to do something a little diffrent for a change, right now im looking into a gsl-se i found today with a blown motor, here are a few questions i have, im sure they have been posted up here before in the past but i dint have that much time to search so i apologize for that and thanks for your guys comment, my plan is to put that motor into the FB , i am not %100 for sure however that i will have to swap the entire drivetrain out or not, how much power can the gsl-se trannys and rear ends hold, im going to be pushing 400RWHP, if i did have to swap the rear end and everything how difficult would that be, are they direct swaps or not?
if i were to use the FB tranny would i have to get a diffrent flywheel or anything like you do when going from a t2 tranny to a 12a?
basically i thought i recalled reading that the gsl-se drivetrains could support an impressive amount of power, and how much diffent would this tast be if it were not in a gsl-se? would it even be worth my time? any suggestions or information will be greatly appreciated, thanks

Dan

I'd recomend swapping the entired drivetrain. Pushing 400 Horsepower can snap a 12A tranny like a twig, GSL-SE or not. Stronger rearend wouldn't hurt either. If you were pushing less HP it wouldn't be so bad but 400 is alot of power and tourque for a 12A drivetrain. Just my 2 Cents

yeah thats what i was figuring on, ill try and do alil more searching, i have never owned a 1st gen before so its a new game to me ive had 3 2nd gens and 1 third gen, so what would be needed to swap the entire drivetrain, basically would the t2 rear fit without having to modify the mounts? as well as the tranny? Im assuming ill need to have a diffent driveshaft made is that correct? thanks for your imput..

welcome to the 1st gen section...Be sure to post the pics as you do the swap. I'm in the middle of just removing my rat's nest. Come May, I'll be doing my motor swap. I have planned on the 20b, but figured I could use the 15k(rough cost for total swap) to put the Mopar Stage three(Motor and Suspension upgrades) on my wife's Srt-4 and still have enough to do the 13bt on my first gen with a bigger turbo.

the GSL-SE's have 13b's in them, but i'd suggest dropping in the T2 tranny instead. I've heard of people pushing impressive amounts of power through the GSL-SE rear. since you already have the T2 tranny, just swap everything in, make custom mounts, and be done with that. if you break your diff, then start upgrading, but use it until you loose it.

well, like I said, I can't wait to see the finished product and walk through....Scouting through the search tonight, I came across AtkinsRotory again. Thought to myself that I haven't been to his site in a while or their supercharger site for some time. Looked and liked what I saw. I didn't realize they came out with a 12 inch supercharger, hubba hubba hubba......

the FB tranny will hold up. Plenty of people have hit those marks on the stock tranny and rear diff.

It wont last forever if your dumping the clutch and driving like a jackass.

you will probably have to use the 225mm flywheel if you use an FB tranny so that the starter will work properly.

thanks mikey, yeah i might actually try that, atleast if something does go wrong ill already have everything to make it right again, how much weaker are the non gsl-se drivelines? i found a really good deal on an 82 with a blown motor would that even be worth my time? im still working the guy on the gsl-se but idk how thats gonna work out

the only thing better about gsl se stuff is that the rear end has the biggest factory disk brakes of the models. there is really no differance in durability in the transmission and rear diff.

gsl and gsl se both have LSD's and you will definately need one.
the GSL LSD is better, it is a fair amount stiffer.

Actually, the GSL-SE rearend has larger axles in it. They are a little heavier, but bigger parts weigh more. Good Luck with your project.

Cheers,
