Talking ANOTHER new system, this time might be selling cusotm stuff (pix included)

Hey guys, I am not a real big fan of my last sub box (i posted my progress on that on this forum somewhere) so now that I'm home, a friend and I are making super high quality custom fit mdf sub boxes. These boxes hold up to 10 inch subs, and you don't need to remove anything (so we can keep our spare tire just in case ). Here are two pictures so far, both from tripod which is not very good at hosting pictures, but you get the general idea. we haven't completed either of them yet as they take quite some time to make. However, once we do complete them, if it sounds good, we'll most likley make more if you guys are interested. Probably sell them around $200 per set, but I'm not sure because I want to make sure that they sound as good as I think they will. Anyway, here are some very early pictures. Hopefully we can at least finish the box construction tomorrow, then have it all carpeted and everything by next weekend.

tell me what u all think! (and let me know if you are interested in a set)

either black carpet, or possibly black vinyl

*edit* if we sell them, I can cover them in whatever color / material you all want (for an extra charge to cover cost of the material) or i can send them un-covered. But again, i'm not sure if we are gonna sell them at all, i'm just curious if you guys would be at all interested assuming they sound as good as i hope

Much better. But what about the stock speakers? Your gonna lose some sound quality and volume covering them up.

oh, I'm not running with the stock speakers, I have 6x9's in boxes that are going to go where the old sub box was (in the bin spot) also, I can make boxes for 6 x 9's or even boxes to replace the stock speakers.

(but with our exhausts, i bet the stock setup doesn't work too great anyway...)

How would you take the spare out when you need it, it's all covered up? That would be a major pain in the *** to have to remove a 50lb box + subs.

two things to reply to this:

first off, if you are in a position where you need a spare, you are going to be late to wherever you are going anyway, so you can spend a few extra minutes taking out the spare.

second, 50 lbs is not even close. Each box with subs is probably 30 lbs, maybe less. and they can just slide forward anyway.

so i think overall, it's much better to have a system like this as opposed to taking out the spare tire and using that hole as your base for the subs.

Cut and put feet on the boxes so the spare can come out to the front, and Bolt down the boxes. Nothing worse then jumping the Brakes hard and the box hitting your seat.

Make a spot in each box so a 6 1/2 or 6x9 can be put in it facing forward so you can keep your bins.

again, unfortunatly, this update has no pictures. (sorry, now that I am working full time (7:00-:005) i don't have much free time to fart around with cameras and stuff, cuz I only get like 3 hours of light to work on the car. Anyway, today we put in dynomat where the bins used to be (although i personally never had bins) and we did some re-wiring, and a whole lot of cleaning, but it's coming out quite nice, and it is still rediculous how great it sounds... Hopefully I'll have some more pictures to show you guys soon. Oh, and we bought carpet, so I should be carpeting my boxes, as well as the entire back half of the car (and maybe the front while I'm at it...) so... yeah, that's todays update.

pele, I like those too, but those subs are 8 inch. and I have 10's, which do not fit like that. That picture however, is the inspiration for me to mount my subs as far back as possible.

My fiberglass guy has been farting around for a year and has still not made me a set. I hope to pick up my "Mold" this week and do them my self.

I've heard dual 8's in a sealed box... With enough power they can appear to be bigger than they really are...

Besides, I don't like to share my music in public. Dual 8's is plenty fine for me. Maybe spice it up with rear 6x9's and front 6 rounders in the doors...

oh, don't get me wrong, i didn't mean to say that 8's aren't enough, heck, even one 8 can hit hard. I was just saying I couldn't personally do that particular setup because i already had 10 inch subs, and don't have the money to buy any more, so I had to work with what i had :-) (but i do LOVE my setup, mah car is gonna be so sweet once it's completed)

Do you know how a fiberglass enclosure would compare against MDF? I've never heard a Fiberglass speaker enclosure... Would it change the sound at all?
