Another HID FB on the road!

Bought an E-bay HID light kit. $89 Projector lens lights $45. Pretty straight forward install. Hope I don't get a million tickets now.

Garbage OEM light.

OEM light on.

Projector lens

HID kit.

Ballast mount.

Comparison.

Finished!

Seems they've got lighting down on the newer cars so I'm sure this would be over kill for them. But the difference between 1985 technology lighting and the HID's are amazing.

Looks good, I was thinking about doing those lenses in the past. Is there a shrap straight line light cut off with the lens?

Honestly I don't know, I haven't driven with them in the dark yet.

I'll get some night pics up later tonight.

Could you post up some night shots on a wall from about 20 feet away when you get a chance?

Thanks,
Kevin

did the kit you bought have a high and low beam? ive seen kits some friends bought that had a HID low beam, and the high beam was the same as the regular lights were.

No hi beam... The kit just has an adapter plug that plugs directly into the mazda harness. I didn't have to cut or splice a single wire.

But the ballast powers the HID bulb. Not sure how you could have a high beam with only one bulb? I think the newer cars use 2 bulbs. One on at LOW other kicks on directed higher on HI beam.

Bought mine here. Arrived in 3 days fedex priority. I'm happy with it.

I wanted the 4500 (white) But they were out and I'm not a patient man...

These are the 6000.

the ones im talking about had a smaller bulb just under the HID bulb just so there would be high and low beams to pass inspections. the guy i know that had them put them in a civic, and the "high" looked like a regular low beam light.

Don't get flustered if the guy in front of you slows to a crawl because he can't see the road markings because your lights are blinding him.

Did you also get these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/78-85...QQcmdZViewItem to put them in? You never said what housings you used for the bulbs.

And where're the night pics!?

Man it's saturday night I had to get the social life thing out of the way!

Pretty sure standing in front of a head light with any camera is a pointless pic.

U can't tell by the pics very well. It's really bright. I need to take the head light covers off and do some serious adjusting. I've got the lower adjustment screws all the way in and the beams still need to point down alot more. But since pointing the lights down I haven't got any more flashes from traffic. So I assume I'm not blinding people as badly? I'll work on directing them more tommorow. All in all a good day for the mazda!

Anyway heres some pics.

One in and out of the car and a few head-on shots.

From: http://www.rocky-road.com/ipfH4.html <-Good Info here)

Seems like what I want. The right color temperture too,
as I wanted 4000k lights, to be like my Lexus's HID's.

Before/After

I also ordered a headlight wiring upgrade from Summit Racing.

I really like the HID like "cut-off" too.

I'll let you know the results when I get them.

wow thats great. my friend was telling me to do the conversion too. i didnt even kno they had those headlamps for are cars. anyways. for a better lighting, switch out the projector with an oem one from another car. the ebay projectors aren't good. theres a site online somewhere that tells u wat size projector came from which car. it was some kinda forum. great job tho!

There are several types of Hi/Low beam systems available. Some use two bulbs. Muccoulugh's systems use a mechanical arm that moves a plate to change the beam pattern itself inside the bulb. Then the most popular is a variable voltage ballast. This system cuts the voltage for the low beam and then on highs the bulb will receive the full voltage. This is the most popular, because it is cheap to manufacture.

I stand corrected. My cheapo HID's only have one setting.

My light is definatly spread all over and I'm sure it's blinding for people in front of me.

As far as the cutout what about some sort of lens black out covering the top half of the bulb?

Like so... ?

I'll try it and let U all know. I think it looks kinda wicked as well...

That might be an option. Do it and take some pics of this as well.
might work out well.

Thats how many HID systems achieve high and low beam.
They use just one bulb, then have a retracting shroud that covers a portion of the bulb within the housing,to give a low beam pattern. For high beams, the shroud lifts and you get full, high beam brightness to permanently blind any deer or hitchhiker you might come up on.....
