Ok, Ive heard about problems resulting in the removal of the air pump. Is this the problem? The belt moves the alt when the crankshaft turns, but it doesnt turn the water pump as much as it should. It kinda slips. Is this why I need the dual belts on the alt? So that I have two going on the water pump in an effort to stop slipping? If so, where can I find such a pully?

If you tighten the belt really tight it eats the front bearing. That's bad.
Ensure the belt is properly adjusted (not loose but not guitar-string tight either) and ditch the clutch fan for an electric one. Solved all my problems.

what do i all have to remove on a 13b gsl-se the pump, charcoal cannister?, and the hose/ **** that goes to the fron of car, near air cleaner? i might unhook all that ****, gut the air pump and mount it back on, instead of spending 50 u.s. on a pulley, or go to implement dealer, find a farm pulley cheap.

Hey i will check for sure but on my 79 with no pump i think i cut the spacer for the alt. mount but as far as the alt. belt goes you need a dayco top cog i dont have part no right now but i will find it and let you know the alt wont slip or squeel with that belt

ha, i gutted the air pump, now it spins great, weighs about 3lbs and wont cost me $50 u.s ($65 cdn) I lubricated the inner sleeve that, when fins are attached creates a vaccuum, and now it is wicked.

Or, you could have just run a 3L220 belt from the engine pulley to the water pump pulley...

Its really easy. You run it over the water pump pulley and start it on the engine pulley... use a wrench on the bolt inside the pulley to turn the engine over enough for the belt to slide on... takes about 10 seconds. In my experience, the belt fits perfectly... not tight, but enough that you CANT spin the water pump pulley by hand anymore.
To anyone interested in doing this, make sure you get a high quality 3L220 belt made for automotive applications... the 1st one I got was a cheapo belt.. it lasted 3 days lol.
