You have to start running up the bill, insist for a rental car, now they are on the hook for a bill that will continue to go up until they settle, this will increase the urgency on thier side to settle, this give you slightly the upper hand as the bill is now going up daily. Your getting a rental car does not come out of the offer for the car or decrease your settlement. Where you may have made an error, is in telling the agent that you were going to be deployed, now she knows that you are on a clock as well & she can afford to wait, now if you can get a rental, . . .

lets do this one by the numbers

1st: First go down to your base legal beagle and get his business card (also inform him of the case)

2nd: do not request, demand a rental car to use until yours is fixed. As Dr Jeff said this will make them want to settle quickly. Also let them no you have contacted a lawyer and are prepared to take the fight into the courtroom if required.

3rd do a Blue Book v/s actual cost spread sheet IE: get prices from as many sources as possible both dealers and internet (this will serve as backing documentation for your claims as to the value of the vehicle)

4th tell them that if you deploy on military comittments, they can deal with your base legal officer, then get him up to speed and wired for action and he can start turning the screws for you.

i'm not going anywhere i told her that i had been there. and that was out of anger. i called her today and she asked for one more day to make some calls or some bull. it sounds like i will get bluebook (around 2g) if i let them take the car. i really didn't want to get legal involved because i have a shitload of other things to do. i moving toward taking my wheels off and putting the stocks back on and letting it go. i still have the t2 i could rebuild with the settlement money and drive that around until i find another 1st gen shell to put the motor in. this has been a really hard month and to be honest the fight just isn't in me. i will call again tomorrow and i we'll see what happens.

Don't give up. I know it seems like a MAJOR hassle right now, but pretty soon, somewhere down the line you'll wish that you didn't let the car go. Just hang in there and keep bothering the insurance company. The squeeky wheel gets the grease. Please don't let that car go to the scrapyard just because it is "imperfect" now. Look at where I started for crying out loud! <--------- My car was a total pile when I got it. I had many days like you are talking about. But when all was said and done, it was absolutely worth it. Every dime, every hour, every broken knuckle. Just hang in there. Things will work out....

You should read my letter. I was in the exact same situation as you and I convinced the woman who hit me (in her Hummer, no less) to write me a check, as I feared the insurance would total the car (she called and indeed that was the case).

Yeah, man, don't give up just yet. When I bought my Rex, I was just wanting a different vehicle to replace the truck I was selling. I saw a 240SX but the guy never returned my call. While I was still searching, I decided on Mazda, and low and behold, for $1500, I found my new sweetheart. The minute I drove that car away, I fell in love with it. I have never felt this strong for a love of a vehicle like I do for this. My car has some mild dents/blemishes and scratches on it, a noticeable one on the nose, and I've spent over $1300 on it to make sure it was running at its best.

You can't give up on this car over a run-in like that. Think of this as an opportunity to bond with your car even more, even tho you're pressed with time (Hell, I'm pressed with money :P, but who isn't?) and whatnot. I say sit back, smell the pizza, invite your friends to share that pizza, and think of other new ideas that you could do to it that you might not have even thought of before. Small example, I ended up breaking a 1/4 of my steering column cover off with my knee and after looking at the jumble of wires, I figured "Y'know......I bet it would be cool to install a push button ignition.."

I bet if you look at your car, another idea might come across your head on what else you could do for it. Don't give up and don't sell that car. That's an order, Private! j/k I meant Private First Class.....gotta give you some respect. *L* j/k

update
got my two offers from the insurance company FINALLY.
offer one- $1200 check to fix my car somewhere or by myself
offer two- $1350 and they take my car
i took the first one. but i am not going to fix it. i am looking into a nice turbo fc and i hope it works out. the car is now for sale in the west classifieds for $500. my work hours and new place don't permit me to do body work. $1200 is pretty much what i paid for it three years ago so i don't think i got ripped to bad. i have had two 85' gs rx7's and both were hit when i wasn't in the car so i think i'm ready to try a differant gen. i'll keep looking for a fb and maybe i'll find a good deal you never know. so for the moment i'm rotorless.
