Ah.... A/C is goooooooooood
Well, after visiting Orlando for a week, in the 90 degree humidity, I got back to D.C. and decided that It would be nice to have some air conditioning in my car. So, I broke out my old set of gauges, added some dye to the system, and charged it up. Found a leak RIGHT at the compressor on the high side! Replaced the O-ring, charged it back up again, tossed on a new belt, and Voila!!! I've got A/C!!!! Man, this summer is gonna be AWESOME!!!!

I would advise changing allt he O rings in ALL fittings, the accumulator, and hope the compressor, evaporater etc is still good.

I own a vacuum pump, and used it to put a vaccum on the system. I stayed with R12 because I have quite a bit of it lying around still, and it blows cold as hell!!

I converted mine to R-134a and it sucks. I liked the R-12 much better. Damn naziesque price gouging epa! Houston summers require a really good a/c system. I didn't think it was up to par when it worked to factory specs but its much better than nothing. The really sad part is that R-134a isn't any less damaging to the environment than the R-12 is. Its just a little different. I need to go outside and uselessly spray a couple of hairspray bottles to let off some steam now.

Go do some research on Hydrocarbon refrigerants. I have converted two of my vehicles over so far and they cool as good as r-12. One was a r-12 vehicle and the other was a r-134a vehicle.
And before anyone goes off the handle on flammability, go do some research, r-134a is more combustable under pressure in the a/c system than Hydrocarbons are.
Hydrocarbons are a blended refrigerant, so make sure your system does not leak, because if the mixture gets off by unequal loss of gases, the system will stop cooling.

I did research last year on bus fleet AC and they 100% agreed 134 is inferior to R12. The conversion efficiency is lower and it's a complex compound so it can get weird with differential attrition.
R12 is expensive: cost me $170 last year for a recharge but it blows very cold.

Must B Nice..I put r-134 in mine, worked fine that night. Now, compressor won't kick on anymore. It will if I apply 12volts, then blows cold. AC light comes on inside car, but no 12 to the compressor. Anyone got an idea? No special fuse or link for this, is there?
