Aftermarket Radio install questions
ok, I have a 85 GSL-SE and I'm putting in a cdplayer. Heres my problem. I've found all the correct wires and the cdplayer works, however when I have the cd player out to test it and turn on the car lights the cdplayer turns off. Now if I put the cdplayer into the dash and turn the lights on the cdplayer stays on but my dash lights go out. Its also causing my pop ups to blow a fuse and stay up. Anylight on this subject?

Did you install the positive-ground power antenna wire correctly? When I had my stereo installed the guy figured it was negative ground and blew my pop-ups fusable link.

thanks that what it was! ok heres another question for you. the wire that hooks up to the back of the old radio for the speakers, where does it run to? I could only find the front speaker wire connector because it was in the front of the car, however I can't find the rear speakers. Is there a hidden amp or something that the S-cable looking thing runs or something?

I had this problem too with my stock radio in my 83 LE. I have been trying to figure it out and have since removed the stereo and am looking at running special wiring and only using the existing acc line so it turns on w/ the car. But is very confusing.

I think the stock head unit just puts out a left and right channel. then runs the signal to the 2 amps inside your storage bins which split it to a front and back. The easiest thing to do is just forget about the factory speaker wiring harness and just run new wires. Plus, it should sound a little better than the old crusty ones.
hey, i just noticed your in sheperdsville, if you want to come by i can show you how i did mine. I live off bardstown rd in the highlands.

Ok so I've done it again! I sold my rx7 back in 2004 and bought another in april of 2005. I tried installing a cdplayer today but am now having the same problem again!
I tried to read and understand again, but for some reason don't understand. Can anyone help me out?
This is what is happening...
I turn on the car and the cd player works, however if I put on the lights it turns off, but then turns back on.
I have the black ground wire from the cdplayer hooked to the bolt on the car, I have the power wire hooked to a 12+ acc source and the luimnation wire hooked to the lumination wire from the old radio. The yellow battery memory wire is hooked to a constant battery source.
the lumination works fine as well as the memory on the cd player. Every on the cdplayer works... just when i turn on the lights on the car the cdplayer shuts off then turns back on.

If it has anything to do with the pos-neg antenna thing, there is some info here:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hlight=antenna
It talks about replacing the stock antenna, so it's not what you're doing, but it offers information on how our power antennas are wired reverse of what most cars are.
So instead of having aftermarket antenna with stock stereo, you have stock antenna with aftermarket stereo. Could be applicable.
If not, I'd just run all new wiring and be done with it.

ok so i'm a retard... turns out everything is fine and that my battery is so dead that it would kill my radio so it could turn the lights on. I charged the battery and everything works fine.
