Is this the stock sunroof or or a cut-in type?

Hmm...well i guess i should provide som info on the car huh.

as stated in sig it's an 81. I believe it's a GS model but i am not tottally certian. (No Tags indicating model)

I've never sen this type of sunroof before on a FB...they're always a BIG glass with no metal trim, or are removable. Mine has a latch type hinge not a rotary hinge like other models as well.

I really need some kind of weatherstrip...the wind is kiiller on the ears. looked on black dragon and wasn't certian if they have this seal or not..

Help...haha.

Thanks.

1st gens had 2 different types of sunroofs. The SA and FBs were a different size and not interchangeable. If your's doesn't have the rotary ****, it's after market. Good luck on finding a gasket. Most of the sunroof manufacturers' from back in the day are long gone.

The S and GS trim levels were not badged. If you have power mirrors, hatch and fuel door, it's a GS.

It's not Mazda factory it's 3rd party. Back in the day if you wanted a sunroof you got one at the lot because they where full of rows of 7's with and without. Doing an aftermarket cut was / is not common.

Hmmm well. According to your guys posts then...i have to fabricate my own seal for the sunroof. The question is..how do i make a one piece seal for it. I can get weatherstripping for it and cut it too length for the perimeter but it won't be one-piece.

?

I had the same sunroof in my car my fix was A: took it to a sunroof place would cost about 150-180 bucks. option B: but a roof panel out of a parts car take sunroof out weld the panel in and no more rain inside the car I havent missed that at all. If you do want to keep it you can buy universal sunroof seal it comes in like 5ft leght you just glue it in and melt the ends of it together.

Talk to your autobody paint supplier. They should be able to recommend an adhesive to glue the 2 ends of the weatherstrip together. If nothing else, black silicone should seal the joint.

My S model has a sunroof like rotary_X7. I put some electrical tape all the way around because I'm tired of water getting in. Electrical tape is a quick fix and lasts for years.

So do you think it's factory with some S Models since...2 people so far have said they have this sunroof?

Anyways, i am going to get some generic weatherstripping and use some kind of bonding agent for the two ends and use some kind of adhesive to stick it to the sunroof.

Black Dragon has the seal..

If it was dealer installe, it's not factory. There's a big difference in the roof structure between the oem sunroof and non-sunroof models. Not to mention the pre-formed headliners.

Yeah, the '79 is the only 'oddball' year- it has a flip-up latch, no rotary ****, but the size is basically the same as the 1980-85s. The front securing tabs are also different on the '79s.

If it hasn't been mentioned already, you can usually have some luck with a new seal at truck topper/accessory places, as the seals on the aftermarket cut-in units are fairly universal style materials off rolls that get used for RV windows, topper windows, etc. Just drive your car to one of the places and they can probably match it up. If you can't drive your car there, and the seal is already shot, remove the sunroof and take it to the shop.

Neal.

I'l be right back to show a couple pics of the "Dealer" headliner they put in when they installed it and also a pic of the latch. Just to confirm it's a dealer installed part.
