Aftermarket fuel pump choices

My car needs a better than factory pump, and since its not working anymore, time to get an aftermarket pump. Seems like carter is a popular choice. Any other suggestions?

What should I be looking for? Can I use any universal inline pump? What kind of flow rate should I be looking for? Its going on my streetport 12a with a weber 48ida.

I also have a Holley fuel pressure regulator on it, with no gauge. Is it completely necessary to get a gauge? I bought this car running 2 years ago this way, and it ran fine until I parked it for almost 2 full years. So its time to rebuild (or at least clean) the carb, and upgrade the fuel delivery so I can get her ready for spring.

Any help is appreciated.

any high volume, low pressure fuel pump will work. I really like the mallory comp 70 because it is really quiet. You need to run a return however with that pump because it will overheat without.

I would definitely recommend a quality gauge like the one re-speed sells. Webers don't like anything more than about 3.5 PSI.

I've used Carters with good results. Make sure to isolate them well because otherwise they can get pretty loud. The Holley Red/Blue pumps are also a popular choice.

I'd recommend a gauge since Webers don't have a fuel level window like Nikkis/Hitachis do.

I was running on Opel GT with a Weber 38/38 and thought I have flow issues, did some research and pretty much concluded there wasn't a pump out there that wouldn't flow enough to feed even a pretty hungry carb, my issue ended being one of the injector tubes had rotated 180 degrees and was shooting gas the wrong way! When I was pump shopping I was put off by some prices and all that, I'm NOT completely convinced you get what you pay for here. I'd get two cheap ones. I had one of these and it was fine, though this one is a bit high on PSI, good regulator or lower PSI pump (both!). might be better. FWIW
This one might be better, don't know really, bored at work.

Thanks Kenestu, and I will do a search next time.

Ok, a forum member has an old walbro pump so I'm looking into that. Any thoughts? Also here is my FPR http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/441/047kr.jpg/ Looking at it, I'm wondering where I would put the gauge....or would it mount anywhere on the line.

i have no gauge, and will be installing a walbro pump soon. I am now looking for a gauge, but where do I mount it? and why do I have 3 lines off this thing? is one a return to the gas tank?
